Not the greatest when it came to consistency, but when he was "on" he was on. His KO of Mirko was a huge upset at the time. Although Kevin could potentially beat anyone on his day. He was limited in skills, but his wrestling was awesome and his power was top drawer, not to mention his athleticism - shame he never learned the grappling game, he'd have been unstoppable IMO. And his suplex on Fedor? Just re-watch that and watch how Kev turns his hips in MID-AIR! You are talking some freaky freaky stuff there. God damn nearly killed the man. Had that been someone not named Fedor, we might have saw a death. And if Kev had won that fight after beating Mirko, he'd have had the best two back to back wins EVER in the sports history. Shame that he died young, but does anyone think it might have been the steroid abuse? He also had some serious staph infections, so he had been through the ringer when it came to his health. Rest easy, Kev! Legend of the sport!
Definitely one of the most physically gifted mma fighters of alltime. Despite his mixed career record he had some great performances like beating Rutten, destroying a prime Mirko Crocop and coming the closest to beating a prime Fedor.
Yeah, I'd say he was the most physically gifted. :good I really wished that Kev would have met with Vitor around '98, Tito and Frank circa '99, Wand '02-'05 (that was really supposed to happen) and Igor anywhere from that time period, too. Those fights would have been something. I reckon Kev might Just have snapped Wand's winning streak before Hunto did.
When I first heard it, I thought it was the drug use as well. But then again there was Dekkers who died at 43 and I don't think he used any peds. So who knows what the real reasons are.
Surprised me. He might not have won all his big fights, but he fought the best of his era from Fedor to Shogun to Chuck Liddell and many more. An entertaining fighter with heart, wish he had switched training camps early in his career to round out his game.
Truly sad! He didn't always win, but he was always a fun fighter to watch. No one will ever forget the suplex he landed on Fedor.
I read he died from heart failure. Wouldn't be surprised if massive steroid use contributed, those hammerhouse guys were notorious for being juiced to the gills. Speaking of, I read a little while back Coleman wasn't doing too well either.
I still say it's the biggest upset in mma history, especially given how it happened. http://www.ufc.tv/video/kevin-randleman-vs-mirko-cro-cop-pride-total-elimination-2004 Still gives me goosebumps
