Boxing has been going through turbulent times these past few weeks with the Mayweather/Pacquiao showdown finally collapsing, and Mosley's fight with Berto being cancelled. I was really looking forward to seeing both match-ups, and any Boxing at all for that matter, considering how long it's been since we've had a good big fight. At least we now have two other fights to look forward too, and perhaps involving the four most dangerous Welterweights in the world. Mosley vs Mayweather and Pacquiao vs Clottey. Bring it on. However, can't you just sense a big upset? Manny Pacquiao has been walking through his recent opposition, and all three fighters were supposed to give him very tough fights indeed. He's been beating the odds, and I've been eating my words in the process. However, now he's in a battle with a tough, big Welterweight in a fight that the majority feel he can't possibly lose. If history has taught us anything it's that Boxing is indeed the theatre of the unexpected, and big upsets seem to arise at the most unrealistic of times. What happens if Manny Pacquiao loses to Clottey? ...We'll never see the biggest fight in Boxing history, and if we do, it won't be anywhere near as significant as originally planned. Likewise, the General will be littered with threads by our very own NALLEGE telling us all that the reason Manny lost wasn't because Clottey was big, tough, and skilled in his own right, but because the dude was a "bruvvva". I can see it now, the thread will be titled, , "The bruva to slick for Dapid Ran". Would we have to concede that the guy actually had a point to begin with? ...Dear god, please no. With the down time we've had in Boxing, and how unlucky we've been with match-ups, it just seems as though now is the perfect time for another disappointment. If your a Clottey fan or a Manny detractor, it would probably be good news if Joshua pulls out the win, but for Boxing we very much want a Manny victory so we can see some big match-ups at 147 in the future. I won't be surprised with an upset in this one. ...Don't go running down to the bookies, but don't sleep on Joshua Clottey like I feel Pacquiao and Roach might be doing.
When Joshua Clottey wins, it will be a good day for boxing. When Shane wins, it will be a grand day for boxing. Pac and PBF will still have their fanbase and make their money. They will still be a part of intriguing fights. I honestly think boxing does better when there are a lot of mini-superfights on the level of Cotto-Margarito, or Cotto-Pac, or Floyd-Shane, than everyone trying to hold out and fight that one fight for $20M. Boxing has been that way for a while, and it has made for some pretty blatant ducking (fighters refusing to fight others because of PPV numbers and ****) and the only thing that will change it is if everyone is given a chance. We need the upsets.
I never sleep on Clottey, he is a dangerous opponent for anyone at 147. I've been eating mad crow going against pac in recent fights (except Hatton come on anyone could see that ko happening). But against Clottey at 147, damn, Pac has balls. I can see Pac winning a decision by staying busy and circling around the slower Clottey. What I can't see happening, is Pac KOing Joshua. I would like to see Pac get his ass handed to him by Clottey and see Mayweather recieve a beating from Mosley. And have them fight each other to make it back to the spotlight. Just because of the bull**** we got from them instead of the fight everyone wanted. These "business" oriented fighters and crooked Promoters is the reason the real boxing fans are not getting the best fight out there.
Pac is too fast and can take a punch at this weight. Clottley had problems with Cotto's speed. Pac is gonna be a bigger problem for him.
I've stopped second guessing Manny. I have eaten several plates of crow for doubting him. I thought De La Hoya would be too much and too experienced. Wrong there. I thought Hatton would do well with Floyd Sr. as his trainer (don't bash me, I've done enough to myself). I thought there was no way Manny could knock down Cotto and there was no way Manny could withstand the vaunted body attack of Cotto. Wrong on both counts. I've had enough of eating crow. Although the likelihood of Manny KOing Joshua is slim, if there is anyone that can crack that granite chin of Clottey, it's Pacquiao. I see Pacquiao winning an easy UD over Clottey. When it comes to Mayweather/Mosley, I'm divided. My brain tells me Mayweather will pull out a decision. My heart tells me Mosley will defeat Mayweather. Tough one for me to call. People want to see the Mayweather/Pacquiao superfight, but I feel Mayweather has a much tougher fight than Pacquiao. Since your thread is titled "Can't you just sense it?", what about Mosley? I mean, it seems destiny has laid out a perfect road for him. He now has a fight with Mayweather. If he defeats Mayweather, he will probably go after Pacquiao (if Pacquiao defeats Clottey). So what if Mosley defeats Mayweather AND Pacquiao? Where would he rank among the ATGs? Can you imagine a man who is nearing 40 beating the top 2 pound 4 pound fighters out there? Anything is possible.
A Clottey victory is a possibility imo.......but Clottey must be versed by his handlers that he's not going to beat a juiced Pacroid through physical means....... Defense and the jab.....work that jab overtime on Pacquiao and let the fight come to him......dont make the mistake Cotto made after having sucess boxing, of going after a Pacroid with endless energy and who for nothing will stop punching. You beat a Pacroid by letting him stricly come to you, and letting him beat himself. Can you imagine, Clottey will outweight Pacroid by at least a dozen lbs, but the key to winning is not to attack, but letting Pacquiao initiate and attack??? Yep, Pacroid is not juicing!!!!:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl
My senses say that this is going to be an embarassingly one-sided beatdown. I give Clottey about 10% chance of pulling off an upset.
I think Clottey COULD win... yes, i think his punches are a bit underrated and i will be interested in seeing how pac handles them. i sure as hell dont want clottey to win... thats for sure. A guy who always shows up to do enough to lose, beating a smaller spectacular fighter on size in a big fight just to go on and possibly lose to the next elite fighter he faces and fade back into obscurity.... no thanks. I want Pac to roll him, then move on to Mosley or Mayweather. There plenty of good fights out there for Clottey should he lose this one... Berto/Collazo/loser of mayweather/mosley the losers of these fights wont be hurting for fights... these are the type of fights that dont really hurt you in any way (besides physically)
Real **** right there... There are a ton of fights at WW that could have been made over the past three years if not for the constant, blatant ducking done by these promoters. Stop trying to carefully craft a fighters career and let the best guys fight. There should have been: Floyd-Cotto Williams-Cotto Williams-Shane Shane-Clottey Williams-Margarito(2) Floyd-Margarito There is no reason we shouldn't have been able to see these fights the past few years. That's what's killing boxing; Instead of working some steady big fights that gets everyone paid, Promoters are all waiting for the "Sunday Punch" and when one fight doesn't go through, everyone shits a brick!:scaredas:
Pac wont loose. Just no. If he does he wasnt as good as I thought, stylistically this favours Pac, he has also grown into the weight even more and hes just the better boxer. Mosley might be the big spoiler here...but loosing to Mosley surely isnt as bad as loosing to Clottey.
