Here is a wee story from the IBHOF induction from 1998. Olivares a former Bantamweight world champion and Featherweight champion from Mexico who fought 104 times between 1965 and 1988, accomplished fellow Mexican Miguel Canto for much of the time. Neither speaks English and relied on interspreter Gene Aguilera to translate. As the men were touring the museum, they stopped by one of the television screen and observed highlights of a Hector Camacho match. They said a few words to one another, then started to laugh. They think Camacho is feminine said the interpreter.......
SO??? Camacho is a future "Haller" with little to no doubt............ Plus, Camacho being much bigger than BOTH Canto and Olivares, Camacho would easily *****-slap both of them ex-champs in a time machine............ Cheers......... MR.BILL
That's true. In a Ring Magazine interview in the late 80's or early 90's Monzon said that Camacho was one of his favorites (somewhat surprising to me), and that he though that Marvin Hagler beat Leonard in their fight.
Yeah, Camacho was superb back when he was blasting out Bazooka Limon and dazzling all those other guys in the days before Edwin Rosario scared him into being overly scared about being hit and transformed him into the super-safety-first guy we've been stuck with more or less ever since.
Yeah, and George Foreman could kick all three's asses while eating a cheeseburger...I mean, what's the point Bill?
Of course Hagler beat Leonard. Camacho is one of my favorite fights, too. Great skills and superfast.
One of the biggest boxing myths of the last 30 years. Camacho didnt engage less b/c of Rosario, he did because he went to welterweight to chase the big bouts where he was undersized. Check out his fight with Pazienza at 140 for the proof.
