I can't see the picture but if it's of Paul on the canvas, c'mon...the guy is pure class. He's a nice kid, always conducted himself in a respectful way and when he strayed off the line he always had the humility to correct himself afterwards. And what's more, he took a real risk by taking the rematch against an opponent who very nearly got the nod against him. Is this how we as boxing fans reward this kind of behavior, when this is exactly what we demand of top fighters? I know this rant is somewhat being a little prudish, but I just find it inappropriate given that Paul is one of boxing's nice guys, and this nice guy took a risky fight.
common man, its a violent sport, people get ko all the time. if it breaks your heart to see it, shouldnt you be trying to abolish such a barbaric display?
I'm your typical boxing fan, knockouts get my blood boiling. It's the ridicule of a fallen fighter that gets me, a fighter the likes of Paul Williams. A nice guy in boxing, takes a big risk and people take cheap shots at him after he gets creamed like that?
its not a cheap shot, i have given paul respect in other threads and feel the same way you do about him. i just kid him the same way i would kid one of my boys for geting his **** stomped. its all part of the soup, baby. wanna play badass, you should have enough shoulders to carry a little ridicule.
I can actually understand that it's part of the game and in the spirit of fun, but aside from the part where Paul is one of the nice guys, I see the reactions here as more disincentive for some of the top echelon guys in the sport to actually take the risks. Andre Berto can actually cite the wise posts in here and say, "See, that's what you get when you dare step up and come up short! I'm just going to be fine with Freddy Hernandez and the 2 mil or so HBO is gonna pony up for me, the stupid ****s."
you really think these guys make their career choices on how much derision thay may recieve on a boxing geek website should they lose. you really believe that?
Of course it's money. But how do these fighters get the big purses? HBO anoints them. Tom Hauser has come out with his exposés, and come to think of it, it makes a lot of sense. To the point, of course the recent widespread tirades against Andre Berto would pressure HBO to slow down with their overpayment towards him. HBO had forced the Williams-Martinez rematch. Now I'm not saying this thread exactly on its own will negate the pressure HBO is feeling to lay off coddling Berto, but if all boxing forums, and if majority of fans get on this ridicule-Williams bandwagon, maybe, just maybe Berto and Haymon will have something on the table to make HBO think twice, once again. Now I have rambled on too long, and I do not even like Paul Williams that much, but I hope I've made my key points.
When I was a little kid I was running by a sand box. I tripped and hit my head on the side of the box and KTFOed myself out for a good minute or two. While unconcious I had a dream about the fall and me hitting my head. It was like watching the instant replay in my head for a couple of minutes....true story
