Williams and Biggs were not at all dissimilar in mobility and general long range boxing ability, if the opponent did not have the temerity to put them under constant pressure, in fact not dissimilar in records either. Apparently barring a NC for Williams... Both Won 30 of 40 fights, with 21 kos for Williams and 20 Kos for Biggs, Both of course came up short against Tyson, and Both was on a run of three consecutive inside the distance defeats that effectively ended any realistic speculation of World Title aspirations for either man, In each case one loss to an American and Two to Europeans (Tyson, Damiani and Mason for Biggs and Morrison, Bruno and Zolkin for Williams ) Both did hold some promise to begin with and had noteworthy nights Like Biggs against David Bey and of Course Williams against Ye Olde Larry Holmes....But it was not to be.. So Two statistically and stylistically similar birds of a Feather.... But who would soar highest in this Match ???
I just think that Carl was a stronger fighter and would be a bit rougher against Tyrell... loved both fighters but Tyrell's punching power was not enough at the top level which I do consider the Truth to be at... possible late stoppage or clear UD for Williams but not without it being competitive
This fight should have happened on 3 seperate occasions. The first time was Jan 87 before Ty took on David Bey, so at that point Williams was seen as an 'opponent' for the up and coming Biggs. Second and third times were a few years later when they were both in decline. All 3 times it was Williams pulling out due to various injuries.(one was his back if i remember). Would've been close. Don't think either would have the power to put the other away. Tyrell struggled when up against someone his own height and reach but i think he's more consistent than Williams.Nobody could say for sure.Whoever shows up in best shape physically and mentally, wins on points
The truth knocks him out... Biggs was soft and weak for a man his size, he had no power, and would have probably been better at a no contact sport like baseball, or basketball, i think boxing was too rough and physical for him...
Carl wins on a close decsion.Boxing ability about equal, Biggs might have been slightly faster, and Carl had the better jab, and longer reach.Tyrell also didn't have the power to faze Carl, so this is Williams' fight to lose.
Silver Skull... I kind of know what your getting at. But Ty wasnt 'soft.' Watch his effort versus Sims with a broken collar bone. Or his effort versus a peak Tyson or his fight with Bowe. He lacked power for sure and he didn't have a fighters mentality. I still say this fight to close to call.
Yeah. There isn't that much to choose between them. Be interesting to see who can establish their jab.
Williams gets a pretty good shake on here whereas Ty seems to not quite get the same credit.Yet i think these 2 are as close as it gets. Both won most of the fights the were expected to win and lost those they were expected to lose. The exeptions being Williams second career loss to Weaver and Biggs loss to Mike Hunter. Tyrell was favoured to lose when he fought unbeaten Rodolfo Marin. Apart from that they both lost their career defining fights. Williams to Holmes Tyson,Witherspoon,Morrison and Bruno. Tyrell to Tyson,Damiani,Mason,Bowe and Lewis. Ty's conquerors were all peak and unbeaten. I think Ty's resume was tougher, he fought a hell of a list of fighters both on the way up and once he got there and on the way down. I think Williams profile is as high as it is due to his narrow loss to Holmes. He beat Cooper and Berbick which were amongst his best wins. Ty's best wins were Sims Bey Tillis Marin Snipes. They both beat Ossie Occasion on points. There were other similarities such as the fact that neither fought that regularly both taking chunks of time out particularly after defeats.I know both off them suffered a lack of commitment at times and both were well aware of the downsides of the boxing game and as such both went through spells of being disillusioned with the job. Both suffered marriage break ups at a relatively early age, both involving young children. This causes emotional strain and cost both of them heavily from a financial standpoint. After his loss to Lennox, Ty put on a suit and went for interviews as a salesman, before he was pursuaded back to boxing,he then won his next 6 fights before losing to Mike Hunter for the North American HW title, thus begining a slide that led to the end of his career. Williams lost back to back fights to Morrison and Bruno and after that he knew he was finished in the big time and fought on unsuccesfully for pay cheque fights. Williams worked as a security guard before his sad death. Ty works as a youth development coach at a Philadelphia gym. Neither had or has much material benefit to show for their careers. Ty lives back at home at the same house with his father where he started out from. Both genuinely decent guys who perhaps deserved a few better breaks.
the Truth had a excellent skill set and jab but had a poor chin, I don't think Biggs had the power to hurt Carl so I think its a UD or TKO for Carl
Bummy.. Always respect your views..but i'm certain this goes to points. Carl wasn't known for bombing people out and whilst Ty wasn't the most durable HW that ever lived he mixed it pretty evenly for long periods with heavy handed hitters like Mason and Bowe. Both these guys were much more heavy handed than Williams. I think Williams is susceptible to a left hand and Ty was all left side...great jab and decent left hook.Ty lacked a right hand (he was a converted southpaw). This fight deffo goes the distance. It would have been a great supporting fight at a world title event. I'm a huge fan of Ty and i also like Williams. It would go the distance 50-50 who wins.
