This content is protected Timestamped. I thought this was interesting. He even goes as far as to suggest Darren Bent, who seems like a fairly timid guy, would beat him. There's often talk about how a small boxer would deal with average Joes - who also might be fairly strong or athletic - so Frampton's frank insight here is worth a watch/listen.
There’s a big difference in being hit properly and being hit. Look at mayweather at nearly 50 fighting Logan Paul who is around 220lbs of pure muscle and is a better boxer than Jake. Look at that Luke Dyson guy where he fought bare knuckle against some Italian guy (who was really good) as soon as the first half clean punch landed he stayed right out of range and didn’t want to know. I think Framptons selling himself short.
I’ve met calzaghe and he was massive, head like a cow! Your average bouncer type guy even with an extra 5 stone of muscle wouldn’t stand a chance. Joes hands were like shovels.
A lot of people delude themselves about how important size and brute strength are, especially on the streets. I remember someone (might have been on here) saying that a good featherweight would beat any of the England rugby team in a street fight
Colin Jones, vicious puncher at Welter, alledgely knocked out a heavyweight rugby player in a nightclub.
On the street yeah because he’s also a former college wrestler so that would massively play in his hands but with fists only Floyd would land first no doubt about it and he wouldn’t just pot shot either. Just because he changed styles and loves jewelry doesn’t mean he’s not a vicious fighter. Take someone like Tommy fury in the ring and on the streets would be battered pillar to post by someone like Prime Eggington. And fury is better than Jake Paul and KSI. There’s a polish guy in my home town he’s absolutely huge, head and face covered in tattoos, real bully boy type, cuts around with an XL bully. Gets his hair cut and doesn’t pay, heard he’s a right nob. Must be over 20 stone of pure steroids. He started training at my kids mma gym (adults classes obviously). He was getting folded in half with ease by 6 month white belts. Think he lasted a fortnight then quit.
Too many variables in street fights to say one way or another. Size most certainly does play a role though so people being dismissive of that are full of it. Seen smaller men knock out much larger people but I have also seen larger men absolutely destroy smaller men in seconds. Hit someone as hard as you can in the head with your fist and get back to me because if you don't break your hand more then likely it will be sprained. To be honest the most damaging shots I have ever seen was leg kicks- those people went down like they had been shot. I don't know how long it takes someone to become proficient with those but nobody ever seems to expect those. And people with wrestling backgrounds always tended to do rather well.
Absolutely. Size is nothing without control as they say, a good big un beats a good little un, all other variables being equal. Yes sometimes there are exceptions but they tend to prove the rule rather than disprove it...
Frampton was talking about boxing, and this is a boxing forum. Wouldn’t it be more fun to discuss this concept in the context of boxing and not street fighting?
