Carl Frampton vs Leo Santa Cruz July 30th

Good fight this. Very close I rekon. If frampton hit harder id have him as favorite. He struggled a bit with Martinez the first time and lsc has a better work rate he's relentless and can take a shot too. If it goes past half way frampton tends to slow and doesn't seem successful under pressure but his work is usually more eye catching. Should be a good one

 

From when this right was originally mentioned a few years back, I fancied Frampton big time. However, as time has gone on, I am starting to lean more towards LSC.

Wither way, it's a fight I am really looking forward to and im glad its finally on.

 

Really its only been LSCs last 2 fights that have maybe tipped the balance in his favour perhaps a fraction. Before Mares I - like you- was fairly confident Carl could beat him.

Also the bigger weight - and US venue help tip things very slightly in Leos favour.

Carls lack of stoppages in recent fights has perhaps reduced confidence in his punch being quite as good as we thought previously too.

 

Yeah... Styles make fights and Leo seems like a pretty bad style for Frampton. Leo throws so many punches... And for a guy like Framtpon who likes to fight at a slower, controlled pace, I think it'll be tough. He'll have to neutralize much of Leo's offense to win IMO.

 

I just see Leos pressure and volume punching winning rounds and I think Frampton lacks the pop at the weight to keep Leo off him.

 

I think some ****ysis is over simplifying things and not doing justice to Carl's skills and footwork. Carl might make Leo miss an awful lot and jab and counter him all night.

Yes I would favour Leo to outwork and eventually overwhelm Carl IF Carl adops a simple one-dimensional approach - if he simply tries to match LSC punch-for-punch with little regard for the other elements of boxing.
But Carl is smart and skilled and wont try to just 'go mad' like Mares and Kiko tried to do. They tried to 'out-LSC Leo' and this played right into his hands. They were always likely to fail with this simplistic approach.
LSC can throw 100 punches a round, sure - but what if a lot of them miss? What if he gets countered with crisp accurate shots -- that could take a toll.
LSC is only human and if Carl can ask more questions of him, his one-dimensional approach, which has worked up to now, might fail. He might run into trouble with Carl.

 

I will be in New York when the fight takes place, I'll see if I can get a ticket.
