Must have one of the worst boxing IQs of any top boxer in the world. His skill set is truly world class, the way he faints, timing of distance, Jabs, but his ring IQ is very poor. Take his second fight with LSC he never made any adjustments when he was getting beat when his tactics were not working. Agsinst Garcia he was winning easy early doors but changed tactics from fighting on the outside to standing static in the pocket then when it wasn't working well never reverted back to his previous tactics. Then at the end of fight talks about how he made it harder for himself by doing so. Silly and so frustrating as he is tremendously skilful.
I agree with you to an extent. But Garcia had a bit of a Margarito look about him. He just could not be discouraged. Took him 4 rounds to warm to the task at hand, but when he did he was walking Frampton down at some pace. Sometimes you have to fight the man, you can't always stay at range. In saying that, take Cotto's tactics in Margarito II, when Margo got in range Cotto went forward, and it worked perfectly. I think similar tactics would have worked well last night. When Garcia closed the distance, rather than sitting on the ropes in punching range, Frampton might have been well served pushing forward, getting inside the range of the bigger man. Still Garcia was no mug and we should commend Frampton for taking such a tough comeback fight. Not many fighters take such a difficult option.
He’s a really odd fighter. Does some things so well. He has always had stamina issues imo, not terribly it is one of his weaknesses. I always questioned his ability after he fought Martinez and didn’t really do much better in the second fight than the first, made me wonder why when he was so highly spoken of, thought he would have had him worked out.I didn’t think there was much in either of the Cruz fights and in the quigg fight he looked very unhappy in the later rounds. Sounds like I’m really slating him which I’m not but sometimes I think because of his popularity it makes you expect more of him than he’s actually capable of. I’m not for a minute saying he doesn’t belong at world level because he does some things so well but I’m not sure he’s elite. I think the move from Shane was a good idea in principle but to go to Moore won’t help him improve. Saying that I didn’t think he was improving under Shane towards the end
Think he's missed weight for his last two fights aswell which is a bit worrying cos he's small for featherweight..don't think he's got the same hunger anymore his body language and attitude before and after the fight seemed a bit off I thought
He should lay off the weights. Carl is just PURE muscle, and muscle is heavier than fat. More cardio, less lifting.
