where was his choice to fight Froch then? Froch wasnt his mandatory at that time and I recall Froch mentioning that he wanted a title before facing Calzaghe, so he had something to bring to the table. Another point is that not only did Manfredo hold an amateur win over Froch (that part is tongue in cheek for the ones who take everything on ESB as literal) but Manfredo was wider known to the American market then, as Calzaghe was looking to build a Hopkins match up and Manfredo was more known and at that time had arguably done more with a win over Pemberton

Was RJJ or hopkins in there prime, christ even eubank wasnt either.

Bailey lets make it clear, we are never going to agree on this one...JC record is padded in my opinion and you think differently. lets agree to disagree

Prime for prime stick them in a ring, Calzaghe beats him on points.. no two ways about it for me.

Stick them out in the street, then I'd fancy Froch... for the sheer fact you have to nail the man to the floor to win. He's just simply one tough, hard man + the fact Calzaghe would likely break his hands.

It's actually quite sad that this is even getting spoken about though, two of Britain's best ever boxer's.. one of which is retired... being talked about in this way.

Jermain Taylor was all wrong for Froch style wise.

Calzaghe's best win was against Kessler who had a broken hand yet Froch was was within a whisper of stopping Kessler late on their second fight when Kessler had two healthy hands.

Froch could take the liberty of taking Calzaghe's weak punches to land a few and Froch is one of the best finishers in the business.

Froch by late stoppage for me...

Those 'weak' punches you talk of kept a prime Kessler from walking through him & put Eubank, a man renown for his chin, on his back side... Froch couldn't just simply take Calzaghe's punches and walk through him

Plus the fact he wouldn't just be taking 2 or 3 punches to land one of his own, Calzaghe had fast hands and didn't stop throwing shots, changing angles, then getting more shots off.

Froch lost to Kessler and fair play to him, he avenged his win... but you cannot seriously say he beat a prime version or in clearer terms the same Mikkel Kessler that Calzaghe beat at the first time of asking.

Was Calzaghe prime when he fought Hopkins or Jones? He was of a similar age to Jones and remember Calzaghe was closer to the end of his career than either of those fighters with badly damaged hands.
    As for Eubank
How far past prime was Eubank to you then?
Eubank had lost a close decision to Collins, that many thought he won, had a couple of tune ups and rematched Collins to a SD, had a couple of tune ups and lost clearly to underdog Calzaghe. After that loss Eubank went up to CW and challenged world champ Thompson losing a very close decision and then rematched Thompson losing on injury when ahead. Thats Thompson who years later past his best KOd D Haye.
Consider Eubank only had 2 losses to one fighter when he fought Calzaghe, the second by SD to a world champ and was 31 then went on to challenge a big CW flooring him etc, how past his prime do YOU think he was?
Remember Kessler is Wards big win and was the same age as Eubank here and had around the same amount of fights
Eubank weighed in at CW with clothes on and weights in his pockets to appear heavier yet still pushed a massive punching CW, who arguably hits harder than many if all today

Do you know the facts around the eubank fight or do I need to bore everyone with them. If you really think that was a prime eubank you need your head tested. Decent Eubank yes but nowhere near Eubank who beat Benn

Manfredo was only known to American audiences off the back of the " Contender " TV Series.

He lost to Mora in the final, but if memory serves me correctly, didn't Manfredo lose in the first round, then got gifted a second chance after one of the other contestants fell ill with measels ?

That is correct but was not at SMW I dont think, and yes Manfredo was known to the world due to the series, which helped to build the fight it was intended to build against Hopkins
