I agree with the OP. This will be Dirrells' coming out party and show that he will be a serious threat in this tournament.
Froch is a hard dude. Direll is imo. one of the best pure athletes in boxing right now. ___________ Much will depend on whether Froch is able to force his will on Direll - even with Direll winning most of the opening rounds - or whether Direll is too fast and agile OR strong enough to combat Froch. Because remember that although Froch is unusually strong, Andre is also a very big and strong guy himself.
I disagree with the OP. Froch has fought fast athletic guys before and ground them down. Said it before and I'll say it again, Dirrell will not see the championship rounds in this fight IMO. Also, if Dirrell uses this occasion as an opportunity to "come out" that's fine with me. What he does in his personal life is his own prerogative.
Although I find Froch's style baffling and at times even ugly, I would not call him a flash in the pan at all. Beating guys like Taylor and Pascal is not exactly something that low level boxers do.
Great thread. Froch is a ballsy, tough kid; but his deficiencies are numerous. He was lopsidedly outboxed by Taylor for about 7 rounds until JT just STOPPED dead. Anybody who doesn't have stamina issues would have wiped the floor with him. He can't defend himself. He has plodding footwork. He is slow and throws wild, looping shots without sticking the jab first. And his chin isn't even that great. If Dirrell fights intelligently, expect him to win a wide UD.
I'm picking Froch to catch up with Dirrell at some point in the fight and then it's 'lights out before the night's out'.
Well, you have to ask yourself how meaningful those victories are. When JT had his engine on he was making Froch look like an old man. Froch pulled a KO out of the jaws of defeat. Pascal is a good B+ fighter but that is all, and Froch went life and death with him, remember. Apart from that, his record is studded with victories over Sven Ottke and Jeff Lacy victim Robin Reid and low-ball British fighter Tony Dodson. His record is highly dubious.
