I dunno, im not really buying the line about Froch's new found boxing ability that came out after the Abraham fight. In my opinion Froch has just gotta go after Ward like he did Pascal . A real balls to the wall, leaving everything in there performance. If its a pure dog fight, which Froch needs it to be, i think he will break Ward down. His jab won't keep Ward off him anyway, its not particularly hurtful and its a bit too predictable. Ward won't plod forward in straight lines like Abraham.
"My lungs feel strong, blood flow is throughout the vena cava is optimal, and and feeling suitably supple to do an impressive job on Andre Ward".
Carl can box though he used his jab to beat Pascal. It was when he tried to brawl that he had trouble. Im not saying he can beat Ward, I think hes got very little chance. But if he can keep that jab out there, Ward will struggle to get in and control the fight the way hed want. When Kessler threw three jabs in a row, Ward usually took one or chose to reset to get position. Kessler just couldnt sustain anything that night, which was partly down to Ward of course. But Carl can use those flaws and openings. Ward leans in when he advances, but Carl has a dreadfully slow uppercut. So the jab could be an effective weapon to put him off balance or blind him to the right hand or a left-hook. This is all wishful thinking though Wards much more rounded. Frochs only real advantage is going to be his physicality, but Ward likes to be a bully too.
I've got to disagree with this. Froch is not a particularly good inside fighter IMO, certainly not as good as Ward, so trying to take the fight to close quarters for a tear up just wouldn't work I don't think. Froch's best weapon is his jab, whcih when used on the back foot can be very effective. If he tries to stay disciplined behind it, his height and reach advantages would give him a good chance to dictate the range of the fight and that is key IMO because Froch's punches only tend to have a bit of weight behind them when he gets full extension on them. I don't think his power at world level is all that either tbh so taking the view that he can KO Ward in a tear up and going out and rushing forward to engage would be the wrong tactic in my opinion. It didn't work vs. Dirrell and it wouldn't here either
On a side note how come while this tournament has been going on, there's been a lot of bute struggling to find an opponent, how come bute vs dirrell was never talked about? Or have I missed something?
If its natural then thats cool, he can work on his boxing without worrying too much about his weight and diet. If he has made weight early then that is bad as he will have to focus on keeping weight for a fortnight which wont be easy and can be weakening to a boxer.
Froch can ko Ward if its a tear up but i don't think Ward will even attempt to let it be that kind of fight. Maybe we have a different interpretation of what a tear up is but to me its both fighters trading heavy blows up close. If it gets like that Ward is in serious trouble. Inside fighting is different to which you are right Ward has the edge but like i said he would be foolish to engage Froch at close quarters if he doesn't have an arm tied up.
I think Showtime put some kind of restrictions on Dirrell in regards to fights he could take after pulling out of the comp. Plus he had to wait for Dr Shaw-Hi's pioneering brain transplant to heal. You're right though there hasn't been much hype around that fight getting made, guess it comes with being out of the limelight.
Froch walks around his fighting weight all the time even out of camp, it's a reason he never jumped up to fight Hopkins when it was muted a few years back. It's what a fighter should be doing, Hatton was extremely stupid and putting himself in danger draining that much weight.
Sure Froch used to say years ago that 175 was all wrong for him cos he walked round under that. I dont believe he is killing himself to make 168.
