Very interesting. You'd think he'd try to milk him to his last worth. Isn't he trying to get Scotty Harrison back in the ring when his stint is up?

I have always liked Joe C. Just wished he'd have made his move sooner. But to be honest, can't blame the guy. He's made a lot of dough and fans.

    Agreed on the Slappy crack.

The point is America had no interst in 168 as a whole. It's not a Joe thing, nor is it a stretch to say the talent pool at 168 was shallow.

Sorry but you can't call that version of RJJ an all-time-great. It's just bull****. Calzaghe didn't even deal with him that well. Jones has only scored one knockdown since Richard Frazier in 1999, and that was Calzaghe. It is a shame Joe's resume is so shallow given that he is either the best or 2nd best SMW ever.

Let's also add that Hopkins turned down a career high payday ($3m) to face Joe in Vegas in 2002, instead facing Hakkar for 200k. Ottke turned down offers to fight Joe in Germany. Joe wanted a fight with Roy Jones, instead Jones priced himself out and moved up to HW to fight John Ruiz not long after. Joe was chasing these guys when they were prime, and they wanted nothing to do with him. Joe gets a lot of undeserved criticism. His resume is the strongest of any SMW ever, so disrespecting Joe's legacy is also disrespecting the legacies of every other fighter who campaigned at SMW.

Yep:-( fwank is a guy who has no qualms about milking guys careers. I don't know his motivation for asking Joe to retire. Maybe he caught wind that Joe was going it alone.

i think the point that calzaghe won every belt at the weight, became ring champ & totally cleaned out his division has been kinda missed. froch ain't done that.

a lot of people are severely under-rated joe's oppo as well...but that's fairly standard for this forum. :conf

I would agree but the OP is overstating the case. The Roy Jones win counts for jack and anyone who says otherwise is tripping.

He didn't clean it out though. Guys like:
    Mads Larsen
    Sven Ottke
    Eric Lucas
    Rudy Markkesun
    Marcus Beyer

Were all hanging around the division at the time, and top ranked contenders.

Froch has good names, not all wins, but has potential to surpass Calzaghe easily. Excuses can be made but in the end, fact of the matter is that the many fights Calzaghe needed did not happen
