That's like Michael Spinks wanting a rematch with Tyson, saying he knows how to strategically beat him next time.

I scored the main event for Froch through 7 rounds, 4-3 rounds, 67-66 points, giving Groves the 1st, 4th, and 7th rounds. I thought the 2nd and 4th rounds were particularly difficult to score. The 1st round was very cautious, both fighters keeping their distance; Groves eventually landed a jab, a left hook to the head, another jab, a double jab, then the two exchanged and alternated several jabs over the rest of the round. In the 2nd, Groves missed a head-body jab combo, Froch threw a rangefinding double jab, Froch half-landed a right to the head, then landed a nice right to the body; the two then exchanged overhand rights while in a clinch and then again while out of a clinch, Groves landed an overhand right, Froch landed a right to the body, and Groves landed a left hook to the head. In the 3rd, Froch threw a rangefinding double jab, then the two had their first significant exchange of the fight, with Froch landing a left-right to the head and Groves countering with a right to the head; Froch later landed a R-body-L-head combo, then a left hook to the head, then 5 successive stiff jabs to the head, and Groves answered with a grazing left-right combo to the head.

In the 4th, the two exchanged jabs for the first 45 seconds, Groves landed three good rights to the head over the next 45 seconds, then Froch landed a sharp jab which Groves countered with a left hook to the head, Froch landed a left to the head, missed a left-right to the head, then landed a nice left-right-left combo to the body. In the 5th, Froch threw several rangefinding jabs, Groves landed a single stiff jab and missed a left-right combo to the head, then Froch shook Groves for the first time in the fight with a right hook to the head followed by a 3-4 punch combo to the body and then another right to the head; Froch then landed a single stiff jab, Groves landed two overhand rights, then Froch dominated the rest of the round with 4 hard rights to the body, 3-4 rights to the head, and a hard jab at the bell that snapped back Groves' head. In the 6th, Froch landed a left to the head and a right to the body, Groves countered with a right to the head, Groves landed a double jab and an overhand right, Froch landed a left hook to the head and then a left-right combo to the head, Groves landed a couple jabs, Froch landed a left-right combo to the head and a left to the body, then the two exchanged flurries to the head over the final 15 seconds of the round, with Froch landing the best shot with a right hand at the bell.

In the 7th, Groves landed a double jab, then another jab, then landed a hard straight left to the head that drove Froch backwards and shook him for the first time in the fight; the two then exchanged jabs for 30 seconds, Froch missed a flinging left-right combo to the head, the two exchanged left hooks to the head, Groves landed a double jab, then another jab, then Froch forced Groves onto the ropes with several wild looping hooks to the head and body while Groves countered with 3 hard short rights to the head.

In the 8th, the two exchanged jabs, Froch landed a left-right to the head, Groves landed a left to the head, Groves wildly missed an overhand right, Froch landed an overhand right that sent Groves into the ropes, Groves landed a jab-right combo and then a left-right combo to the head, Froch landed a 2-punch head-body combo, Groves landed another left-right combo to the head. At this point, Groves had his back to the ropes, and was carrying his left hand VERY low for what I believe was the first time in the fight; Froch threw a feinting grazing left hook to the head, Groves turned his head to the right while setting up to throw a left hook from his beltline, and then Froch literally beat him to the punch with a massive crushing right hand to the left side of the face that sent Groves down and out. The referee quickly waved off the count and stopped the fight; while I briefly thought the stoppage was a bit quick, seeing Groves get up from the canvas very badly shaken removed any doubt.

This was a truly spectacular victory for Froch. Not only did he achieve a definitive victory in front of the largest crowd for a British boxing event in about 80 years, but I believe this outcome removes any lingering doubts about their first fight, and it certainly puts Froch squarely back on world boxing's centre stage. This fight was fought very much differently than their first fight, with both fighters being much more cautious, working behind their jabs, unwilling to take foolish chances. Froch still kept his left hand low as always, but was able to keep Groves at distance with his jab and his concentration on his boxing. But Groves seemed to be getting on top of the fight in the 7th and 8th (until the knockout) rounds, and it would have been fascinating to see if Froch's usual superior conditioning would have once again carried him to victory in those later rounds. But that one right hand, whether it came through a fortuitous opening or was one Froch had worked to set up, meant we would not find out. Froch's legacy is secure.

Froch has always been a late starter and actually Groves was holding his own pretty well. Froch did eat some nice right hands early and Groves corner telling him to halt throwing the right was a big mistake IMO. Froch tho past his prime is still a wily, smart fighter tho his boxing looks as basic as basic can be, he's very effective. Attacking the body to lower his opponents guard and then attacking upstairs is one of the oldest, but best strategies you can have. Groves was younger, faster, perhaps even stronger and came to win. It was supposed to be a passing of the torch, but Groves only got burned by the flame cuz Froch wasn't ready to give it to him. Good fight.

    :deal Great post.
Froch's determination ans will to win is second to none. I saw he was willing to battle to within an inch of his life last night but in the end he didn't need to. I didn't think he could make those kind of adjustments.
Groves will go on to have a good career. Not many guys can walk throgh shots like the cobra did.
