I think Groves would have survived the rd and made it to end of fight. He was in a bit of trouble in the 9th rd but nothing major. This is boxing not tiddlywinks, i know boxing is a dangerous sport and boxers should be protected from themselves sometimes but stopping a fight at that stage was shockingly bad.
If it paused when it actually stopped, I'd put money on Froch knocking him out. But now we will never know. We could have a rematch and Groves would turn down the gas and win on points. If the ref would've done his job properly, we would've had a khan-maidana ticking time bomb of a finish, and whether Groves survived or not, it would've gone down as one of the greatest fights in British history. Howard Foster. You stupid stupid fukc. Not often does a fight in Britain bring in the casual viewer and even PPV.
Wouldn't argue with any of that to be honest. Watched it a couple of times trying to get a firm idea of how bad Groves was hurt, but the only firm conclusion you can make is that it Groves should have been given the chance to recover. He was hurt, but it wasn't like he was stumbling around the ring and falling flat on his face.
We have just had one of the best SMW fights of recent times and watched amazing bravery. We also saw a stoppage that many including myself didnt agree with, but all these butt hurt people bring up Calzaghe, because he makes them insecure. Lets give sympathy to Groves who put in an amazing display and looked like a winner before a stoppage that looked premature considering how Groves had shook Froch up
Fact. He schooled Froch worse than Ward did, or maybe not. But he is the TRUE winner and the TRUE WBA/IBF Super-Middleweight champion!
I think Froch was on the verge of stopping him but obviously can't be that sure. Stoppage was way too premature. He definitely deserves a rematch.
There was a lot of action, but that is supposed to be 2 elite fighters. They had the skill of a Butterbean fight.
