Carl Froch vs Roy Jones jr ... Prime for Prime

What do you think prime Lacy's chances would have been of landing something big on Jones of 94?

This was a topic of conversation if I recall back when Lacy looked like a beast.

Is there a chance prime Froch gets picked apart by prime Jones they way shot Lacy did by shot Jones?

 

If Glen Johnson were able to push Rpy Jones Jr and knock him out, then it seems weird to assume Carl Froch would be unable to even touch Jones Jr. Frochs style clearly spells troube for Jones Jr.

 

We;re talking prime.

Jones wasnt prime at 35, and having being KO'd once after going up to HW and coming back to LHW.

Jones fought at SMW 1994-1996.

why is anyone with a brain mentioning glen johnsons shot jones?

by that thinking we should throw in 40something tommy hearns who would get pasted by froch.

 

Froch would have undoubtedly put that version of Roy to sleep..

We are talking Roy from a decade earlier, at 168.

 

Froch destroys Jones in the mid to late rounds, particularly if drug testing is thrown in. Ward beats Jones too.

 

Surely there is a difference between prime Joner Jr and the version Johnson fought. But the differene isn't as big as it's made out to be. Joner Jr never went through a transformation from beeing God to become a human fighter possible to hit and knock out. He was actually human in the first place, and stylewise Froch is every bit as wrong for him as Johnson were. I think it's pretty evident, to be honest.

 

It would be like Jones v Woods.

 

The difference is huge...

The version Johnson fought

Had no legs
Was dehydrated
Had faded reflexes and turned into a walking punching bag
Had just been knocked out in devestating fashion
Had no confidence
Was gunshy and completely went into a shell
Had obiously lost some punch resistance

Other fighters tried to pressure Jones the same way and didn't have success.. Clinton Woods was a very tough come forward fighter, who was just as good as Johnson and was backed up after a couple of rounds. Clinton Woods would have beat Roy on the night Johnson fought him.

I believe even the faded Jones almost came close to backing Johnson up after landing some good uppercuts, but just didn't have it anymore to keep firing.

The Glen Johnson fight holds little to no relevance of how that fight would have gone with a prime Jones at 168. There are litterally countless other examples with past prime fighters losing to someone they would have schooled 10 years earlier.

 

jones should never have come down from hw, he should have headhunted the best superhw he could fnd and retired, probably losing that one fight versus an elite superhw (because to be fair hes not going to win against one of the top superheavies, the difference in weight is too too big, a MW versus a superHW. Vitali is much less skilled thank jones but he is eventually going to crush him through sheer weight advantage, and Lewis same deal but twice as tough).

 

Prime RJJ was a sight to see. However Roy's resume during his prime lacked quality opposition, if had fought any of the brits (Eubanks, Benn, Collins) or any of the Germans (DM, Rocky) or even Nunn, I'd feel more comfortable in saying he'd clear Froch. Prime Carl could catch Roy or Roy could outbox/fox him to a UD.

 

Roy tried to make a fight with both Tyson & Holyfield and neither wanted. Byrd was an option and I think Roy would've faired better with Chris than he did with Tarve, too bad.

 

byrd being an original MW like himself would have been the best matchup, agreed. It would have been battle of the blow-ups!

well roy certainly would have done better against byrd than superheavy vits embarrassingly losing to byrd.
