:deal Froch should have an easy fight in front of his home fans? **** that. If he wants to fight the best, then let him fight the best. Why not have an exciting fight in front of his home fans instead of a **** one like Nathan Cleverly just did? Fighters like Froch are rare, so when we are getting what we have always wanted from a fighter, why are we sticking our beak in and asking him to take easy fights? Buncey your view irritates me. I understand that Carl has not got much recognition but that's the way boxing has always been. Some fighters, because they just "get on with it" are not considered interesting enough. Look at someone like Paul Williams who struggled to get any of the big names at 147. If Carl Froch decided to approach Bernard Hopkins in a shopping mall, call him out and then wear a t-shirt with Hopkin's decapitated head on it, then he would probably be a superstar like Haye too. That's not him though. It's a shame, but at least he's still making money. More money than most will ever see. We are fans here, not promoters. Carl has enough money in the bank, he's not going to end up a broke old man without a pot to **** in, so let his promoter think like a businessman. Seriously, don't worry about him. Why should we as fans care if he can make just as much/more money by fighting some no hoper? No, we want the best fights so if we are getting the best fights, "waaaa da problem?" Some people are strange. You are getting something so good, from a fighter that's really rare these days. Froch is taking it old school. Instead of milking it and just enjoying it, you are calling for him to give you something less. If your girlfriend decided to cook dinner as well as clean the whole house would you say to her "nah babe, you've worked hard enough as it is. Take it easy"? No, you would keep your trap shut and just enjoy it while it lasts. I understand fighters taking easy fights because it will make them the same/more money for an easier nights work, but I will NOT encourage it. Why? because I'm a fan, not his promoter.
I dont get it, we moan when boxers are spoon fed opponent's and now we are moaning that Carl is still looking to take on top opposition instead of.... well.... one that he will definately beat? What good is that for fans dont we want to see the best fighting the best? Nah, Carl is doing what every boxer should be doing if they want to prove themselves against the best in the division. I dont care about who is following him around the world, how widely he is being reported on and am sure he doesnt really, he's constantly proving himself against the best and making himself alot of money in the process. Nice one Carl, everyone should be following suit but they wont! :good
He just wants to fight the best to find out how good he really is, if that means he ends up with 4 or 5 losses on his record when he retires I don't think he would care, but he would be remembered as one of Britain's bravest fighters.
Froch would fight ten year stints of bums if he could. Remember, when he had the chance to step it up and fight Bute to become mandatory challenger for the IBF belt, he decided to pass and fight Bute's leftovers, Tatevosyan instead? Why? Because he's a warrior and wants to fight the best? Don't drink ALL the kool-aid! Believe it or not but Froch is fighting for money, not to prove how macho he is. Froch only stepped it up by joining the super 6 because he had to. His career was going nowhere. On the other hand, Bute was raking it in in Montreal, but he was desperate to join the super 6 to prove himself the best in the world but Showtime decided not to invite him. That's the difference right there in terms of risk/reward. Froch has to fight tough fights to make some money while he can. If he could fight 10 bums in a row in Nottingham and make $200k each time, he'd do that rather than fight Bute for $600k in Nottingham or whatever it is he's making. But he can't. Froch's not a draw. TV isn't interested in him. Froch's not popular like Bute or Kessler and he's not American like Ward or Dirrell to have TV backing him. Remember, Froch already knows he's not the best in the division. He's been beaten by Ward and Kessler and Bute will beat him too. He has no legacy to protect. He'll never be a hall of famer like Benn/Eubank, etc. For Froch, it's all about maximising income over the next 4-5 fights (tops) he's got left: Bute Pascal rematch Dirrell rematch if he wins against Pascal Groves/ de Gale Cleverly retirement.
I would imagine when you've gained the notoriety (at least amongst boxing fans) of consistently fighting the best it would become tougher to take on some nobody, putting an end to the list of world class fighters he's fought back to back. Due to his approach to matchmaking I can't think of a fighter in boxing hisory I respect more than the Cobra
:good I dont understand why Bunce or anyone else would want us fans to be shown mis-matched fights or easy fights when all we want to see is the best fighting the best.
Froch is a warrior, he doesn't want easy fights he lives off adrenaline and knows fighting lesser opponents won't motivate him. His attitude is refreshing.
Yes but as many top fighters don't seem to keen on facing each other it would seem churlish to complain. I'm just glad we have someone with the right attitude.
'Carl Froch should fight more bums' A Frank ****** employee said today, to the surprise of absolutely nobody.
Bute does deserve some criticisims for never leaving home and the level of opposition faced, but if they think he's average then they need to have a word with themselves.
