I've never been a fan of the guy, in or out of the ring, but it is a bit embarrassing the way the career of such an international superstar is ending.

Dropping one title rather than fight his mandatory, he's now clearly going to drop the other one rather than take on an Andre Ward who was willing to travel to England to accommodate him. Clearly he's clinging on hoping for the easy pay-day that Eddie Hearn has promised him against the overweight, waccy baccy smoking, lazy Julio Cesar Chavez, but that is looking more and more like the pipe dream it appeared to be a year ago.

Appearing on any reality show that will write him a cheque and making claims about beating Joe Calzaghe (the bitterness is still strong there) while being stripped of your world titles, while Gennady Golovkin's promoter names and shames you after every 'GGG' fight, it's almost enough to make you feel sorry for him. Almost.

It is disappointing but after a career like he has had I can forgive him.

never really been a Froch fan but you can't really knock his record, fought all the top SMW's.

He has made a lot of money and I can only assume achieved everything he has wanted to. I personally think he has earned the right to do as he pleases now.

Agree with N17 - whether you like him or not, you can't knock his record and the fact he fought the best around whether it be at home or in there back yard.

He can do as he wants.

On the subject of the Calzaghe bitterness, you can see it still niggles him.

That documentary on ITV4 last night, he made a good few subtle digs.

Calzaghe was finishing up and was after the big money fights, Froch wasn't a name back then.

For the record, Calzaghe on points.

He's done very well for such a limited fighter.
    Made a lot of money.

Can't really knock his record, except for the fact that a lot of people have been overrating it.

    Spot on! :good

ANOTHER fighter that has regressed under Hearn.

One very good 'name' at there time in Bute - remember, people didn't know if Froch would win that. And Bute was considered the joint best SMW with Ward - And Carl ruined him.

Bar that, who has he faced under Hearn?

    Kessler rematch?
TWO DOMESTIC fights with Groves (see the rematch pattern?)

And to be honest, the momentum Carl had going into and after Wembley was MASSIVE! And Hearn fu*ked that up. Cut it any way you like, buy how does a fighter with a profile like that not fight for nearly ONE YEAR after AND drop his belts AND still can't get his promoter to give him his DREAM FIGHT!?!?! And now he might face Degale... ANOTHER DOMESTIC FIGHT!?! Come on, Edd! Surely you can make a non-domestic fight, right?

Just another "But Carl made millions, mate!" Hearn comment to come...

Froch should face GGG. If he doesn't, who else is there to face?

    My sentiments exactly.

Also, I think a fight with JCC Jr is a great way to end his career. A nice, action packed toss up fight.

I'm no Hearn fan but I think Froch's move to him has been vindicated. He's made more money fighting the likes of Kessler II, Bute & Groves than he did fighting Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Abraham, Glen Johnson & Andre Ward back to back. He is now fairly compensated for his resume.

GGG doesn't bring as much money to the table as Chavez or even a domestic fight with DeGale would. Froch is 37 with 2 fights left in him max, his priority is getting paid and retiring in comfort.

And Hearn has been able to secure him the credit that he deserves for his resume. He was a little too far under the radar in terms of mainstream appeal before signing to Matchroom

    Financially, yes. Legacy-wise, no.

Look at your lis of who Froch fought under Hearn! Laughable.

His opponents pre-Hearn are better than his opponents since. I don't dispute that. But you have to remember that the Super 6 pretty much cleared out the SMW division. The best fought the best and Ward came out on top, with Froch second. Bute aside, there wasnt a lot of competition left to fight.

Froch is far better known now than he was pre Hearn, Hennessy did yet another shocking job with a top talent

It is a bit of a joke , he's falling at the final hurlde, theres so many good fights out there for him and he's waiting for Chavez. Hopefully he gets his head right again and goes for a big fight.

    exactly.

Is there really a difference between publicly retiring right after groves 2 and vacating while he looks for one last big fight?
