I disagree. If Froch does a number on Reid then he's a genuine contender for a world title with Calzaghe moving up.
Froch will have to try and stop him if he doesn't want Reid to somehow steal a points decision - unlikely as it is - after all, he is the fall guy. Anything except a clear stoppage or a good boxing performance by Froch - and that includes defence - will not score him many points with anyone...
It's a good domestic fight. I'll be watching. It won't mean much to the world scene but I reckon it'll be quite entertaining.
Odds are narrowing...the bookies think it might go 12 rounds...not good news for Froch at all! He HAS to stop shot Reid!:deal
Of course he did...Reid was as shot as a cannonball... Here's my view of the fight... Saw the fight in my local battle cruiser...met a guy who said he was on ESB...rick? but who said he doesn't write in very much... Froch KD'ed Reid in two rounds, every time with soft shots, particularly the first time...It's not so much that he KD'ed him as much as Reid crouched down and the ref counted him...he was very shot. But he did manage to win at least one of the opening two rounds... Reason why I was interested in this fight was to see what new thing Froch brings to the table, particularly in terms of defence... I don't have good news, unfortunately...Froch's defense has not improved one bit and he was being caught by Reid's looping rights time after time... When they fought on the inside, quite a few times Reid got the better of him... In the clinches - because, as expected, Reid made it quite dirty - Froch didn't impress, but he wasn't dirty... What disappointed me was that Froch was not very fast tonight, nor very mobile, nor were his punches that big...it's almost as if he went easy on old Reid... What I cannot forgive him for was the disrespect he showed Reid on two occasions - first, when Reid slipped and grabbed Froch's feet, after Reid released, Froch pushed him with his feet whilst he was on the floor, as if he was a piece of rubbish...also, at another point, he held his head for ages in an armlock, as if he was trying to humiliate Reid... By tonight's performance I could not say that Froch has made a step forward...perhaps he was taking it really easy, but then, why did he have to take on a shot Reid anyway, and blow the importance of this matchup out of proportion...the fact that he disrespected Reid showed what he really thought of this match-up... Disappointed with Froch's performance. This 30 year old is going nowhere fast, on the basis of this performance...
I've just gone and voted on the poll now. I believe Reid was robbed. False knockdowns, kicking, stamping. Froch should have been DQ. Yet the referee warned Reid repeatedly for punching.
I have given up following Froch's career closely...maybe I'll get excited about him if he goes against Inkin in Spring...until then, see ya, Carl...:hi:
