Props for risking his neck, his reputation, ridicule, many gloating British promoters and rival fighters. So what if Froch was struggling? How many Brits fight anyone near world class in their first defence? And the ones that do, how many actually win? None of this padded / false legacy stuff with Froch. He just takes the fights, finds a way. I still think Pascal should be in the 168-pound top 10. Froch was behind but he got a major scalp in Taylor. These 2 fights are bleeding classics, and sort of put him on a par with some of Benn's and Eubank's achievements. I think it's impressive that Froch stopped a non weight drained Taylor. Taylor produced some of his best boxing but Froch persevered vs the faster, more mobile opponent. I'll keep saying this. Few of us will have the patience for slow meaningless title reigns. Froch is doing it how the fans want it to be done. It's only natural that he will show some cracks as he steps up. Same night as Froch beat Taylor in USA, WBO champ Karoly Balszay made his first defence - vs 42 yo Maselino Masoe. I'd like to see Froch fight Allan Green next and pave the way for Bute. Bute would be a good next big fight, as Bute is vulnerable late. I could see Froch getting a late stoppage after being hurt and outboxed early.
Agreed with the post above regarding Pascal being underrated by a lot of people. There are rumours going about of Pascal challenging WBC Light Heavyweight champ Adrian Diaconu next and i fancy Pascal to to clown the guy if Diaconu's last performance on the Holt/Bradley undercard is anything to go by. If this were to occur it would be another feather in Carl's bow.
I'd like Froch to go right throught the alphabet's, in an ideal world Balzsay, Bute and culminating in Kessler & the vacant Ring strap thrown in there. I don't think at this point in his career and with his attitude he is going to alter his style, so more of the same to come! It's ****ing exciting to say the least.
Extremely exciting. I picked Taylor to win comfortably to be honest - glad I was wrong though. Froch has limitations but guts and determination aplenty - I'm a new fan of his. I do think he'll need to protect his chin a bit more though in order to keep his run going at the top level.
I agree with you. When was the last time a British fighter went over to the states on their first defence of a world title to fight a household name like jermain. He needs to keep stepping up from now on though. Theres some big fights to be made. He should stay away from kessler till kessler is released from his current contractual arrangements and begins to make a name for himself in the US. I think he could definately take Bute. I just hope next time theres some coverage in the UK (im looking at you setanta:nono)
I was impressed by that too and I'm not a Froch fan. Anyone else think his lackluster defence and taking so many clean punches is going to catch up with him though?
Definitely. I think Kessler would do a job on him and Bute should win unless he did what he did at the end of the Andrade fight. But I'm assuming that was Bute being an idiot rather than something that will occur regularly. I think Froch should try and get the Balzsay fella in the ring. Another title to add then go for Bute perhaps. But knowing him, he will go straight for Bute or Kessler. Or one of these hyped up yanks coming through.
