i'd have been too young back then, year 8 in school, speaking of rough as ****, u remember heaven n hell, i remeber once walking in and been stuck to the floor with are the blood n spilt drinks, classic shithole
I was only in year 9 or 10! I do remember Heaven & Hell yes - the only place you can go where you are guaranteed to be started on! I was with a couple of mates and our girlies at the time, and some geeky lad was staggering around the dancefloor upstairs just grabbing alhold of any girl he could, regardless of who they were with - so inevitably he made his way over. After telling him nicely that he had had too much grog, and then a little less nicely and that it was time to go, the sillly twat threw the biggest bomb I have ever seen and because of the slippy dancefloor lost his feet and dislocated his shoulder with the awkward landing - then tried chasing after some other random geezer with a bottle. Good job the bouncers in there were heavy handed and crazy, because someone was gonna get killed!
Great heart good jab and decent skills. Loved that he came into the ring to 'Marching all together'. I would have loved him to have been a better fighter. We could do with a world class boxer to support in Leeds
Yep, i went to that fight of his against burns at leeds town hall, with all the leeds fans, absolute mental, got to love the marching on together thing. also saw him live at the undercard of haye v enzo when he got beat by mitchell, ashame he didnt have the support down there, cos like you say he's got a great heart and leaves it all in the ring. I totally agree with you about leeds needing top class fighters, i mean just look at sheffield, smaller city but produces quite a lot of champions & contenders, but thats probably due to ingle been based their. Lets hope some of the amateurs from burmantofts & batesons etc produce some top talent, last top boxers from leeds were Henry Wharton & Crawford Ashley.
There is plenty of Muay Thai gyms in West Yorkshire, but very little boxing. My mate has a nephew aged 7 who hammers older kids in the thai boxing gyms, but there is nowhere in south Leeds to take him - he doesn't even bother kicking them just uses his fists.
i know quite a few lads who train and work at burmantofts, and its said to have some of the best facilities in the north of england, for thai boxing theirs STAR on York Road, i know a few lads who have been there and say its top notch, im lucky i live in East leeds, but in the South im not really sure about any, isnt there some gyms up meanwood or sumwhere?
i dont know the area that well to be honest, but i wouldt bet that harehills & burmantofts are much better
Was fortunate to see Johanneson against Mitchell on the undercard of the Haye v Macca bill at the O2. Great fight - for me its a leading contender for domestic fight of the year so far. :good
I would agree Carl should have won IMO, Mitchell was ready to go a couple of times but Carl was jiggered.
