In one breath the retired British pugilist and 4x world champion turned on-air analyst-cum-plastic-surgery-enthusiast dismissed the idea of Jake Paul's stipulation that he battle the Brazilian former UFC middleweight titlist and mixed martial arts Hall of Famer. Then in the next - all in the span of a rollercoaster video message response clocking in at barely over a minute - he seems to acquiesce to entertaining the proposition, on the strict condition that Paul himself clear the hurdle of defeating his scheduled opponent this weekend, Tommy Fury.

So how do we suppose a battle would go between the 45 year old Nottinghamian (who last fought nine years ago, in front of eighty thousand screaming fans at Wembley, as he's always glad to remind you) and the one-time MMA p4p #1, who is 2 years Froch's senior but has kept busy in both sports throughout all of the latter's retirement? ...assuming, of course, this is all on the level, unlike the Paul vs. Silva bout that many suspect to have been thrown.

I think his moneywhore status is pretty much just taken on faith at this point.

Agreed, but if Froch were to lace up again, even just to fight a washed UFC legend and/or a brat from YouTube playacting at being a prizefighter, all of us would tune in.

Oh bother... anonymous poll? That's what comes of making haste to post a thread from one's phone at the gym.

Would the first friendly mod mind fixing that when they happen along?

I don't think he entertained the idea did he? I watched it in haste so could be mistaken but seemed to me he was saying he wouldn't fight Silva but if Paul beats Fury Froch might consider fighting Jake.

He said if by some miracle Paul beat Fury, he'd listen to Paul's terms. I doubt his terms would change now that he's put them out there, having the A-side perception of himself that he does (which, purely from a casual fan interest and financial standpoint, he may unfortunately be correct about).

To me it seemed Froch basically said that he would never disrespect a fellow legend by having a circus fight well past their primes...but...

Making his own stipulation the main barrier to Paul's stip, essentially. I guess you could interpret what he said as rejecting the proposal of outright and countering with a completely different proposal of his own (that Paul face him directly after beating Fury) but given Jake's tough guy posturing and sense of entitlement it's safe to say he would double right down on "no, after I beat Fury you do what I told you to do"...and Froch is smart enough to know that, so why bother making the counter-challenge?
