Have to disagree with the tone of the thread and with most of what your saying. I find a lot of the thread comical and its clear most posters have not partaken in combat of any sorts, thats fighting in the street or in the ring, or in competition. Because if you (thats not your personally but most) had done, you'd know that a fight is not over until its over, and if you hit your opponent hard, often and he comes back to win the fight by referee stoppage, then you give him his dues. Something the arrogant Groves has thus far failed to even come close too.

Completely agree on Froch cheating, he was at the point of the stoppage a) throwing rabbit punches and b) hitting Groves after referee breaks. Very naughty! and not sportsman like, Groves should have clattered him with a low blow or give it back.

Groves was shipping un answered flush shots, I'm not condoning the referee's actions, but he was in more trouble than Froch had been in the whole fight.

Take that in context please. Froch went down heavy in round 1 but always looked lucid, he was always throwing something back despite being on shaky legs.

Groves was shipping shots and doing little to a) defend or b) return fire.

Nobody should under estimate what this fight could have done to Groves mentally, he knows he didn't have the tools to see the job through despite his best efforts, in his mind that cannot be removed.

Groves should rightfully go into the fight as the favourite next time around, but if he is even 5% more expansive in his risk taking, Froch may catch him earlier. Its a case of change nothing and hope Froch folds this time around, as for Froch, he was hit flush, hard and very often, he may never be the same fighter again. Of all the wars he's been in, he has not been hit like that, as frequently as that.

Its going to be an interesting rematch.

Froch ran stupidly onto a fight ending punch. The man gets up somehow and takes another shot or two. He was lucky it was early in the fight (full tank etc), By tucking his chin down he makes the punches look less spectacular. He's was unsteady no doubts about that but he did a good job of blagging his way to bell.

Groves didn't unload, He didn't have much time to TBF as there was only a matter of seconds in it but he laid back to long IMO and didn't let hands go enough to make Foster think and to trouble Froch further in that 8-10 second span. Froch although unsteady wasn't having his neck snapped back and head dropping down which is what makes referees panic and Groves in round 9 paid the price for machismo and allowing his head to be snapped back.

Groves didn't force the issue enough even in round 2 he didn't go hunting he stuck to a plan which is cool but guys like Froch you don't want them hanging about cos they will come back the same night!.

Ultimately he didn't make Froch pay and Froch was still feeling the effects into round 6 IMO as he tried steady himself and get his legs back. Groves would ambush and ambush successfully but he didn't sustain the attacks, He never added variety to his attack and never changed the pace.

Bell saved him or not Groves didn't force the stoppage IMO and he can only look at himself. Froch seized on his one moment in the fight and for all the stuff about Groves winning mindgames the fact people bring up Froch's references to Groves being chinny and him being tough as nails playing a part in Fosters decision supposedly means to me that actually Froch won the mindgames then as he got into referee's head. Just saying...

Groves was beaten in round 9 and his face looked like a piece of meat from a rocky film deal with it. These what if threads are pointless

    Great post

Totally agree Groves has to go to work early and when he hurts Carl, which he will, he then has to throw caution to the wind, he can stop him, however, waiting just plays into the cobra's hands.
