Interesting match. If this fight had taken place I’m guessing it would have been around 1988 as Qawi was still fighting at cruiser prior to that. He would have been roughly 38 years of age. At 5’6” he’d also be up against a 6’4” Williams and an excellent left jab with a lot of reach . Qawi was tough and good at pushing his way to the inside but I think Williams might have been a bridge too far to cross.

Williams had a weakness to left hooks but Qawi would have to jump in the air to even land those lol.

I love Qawi, but I think Williams decisions him, Dwight wasn't much of a force at heavyweight, apart from the Foreman fight. Even if he came in at 200lbs, he still didn't have that work rate like he did at light heavy and cruiserweight.

Yep, I'd rather see 175-80 pound Qawi fight Williams. That would be interesting to find out if CW with his reach and jab could hit DQ cleanly. I don't remember CW having a good right hand. I bet CW would be a nervous guy whenever DQ got inside. with 10" difference in height there might be a lot of low blows, intentional or not. I think I'd favor a well conditioned DQ to win.

Folks don’t understand that a good 175lbs - 190lbs guy beats the not very good heavyweights - in skills by comparison Williams wasn’t a pimple on Qawi’s a$$… where they go wrong is applying that logic to heavyweights who fought like big men, example being Usyk’s dimensions being brought up for say Foreman recently - it’s a styles thing… for example Byrd is not a stand in for Ali’s success against big HW’s because Ali fought like a big HW.

The truth is that the Buzzsaw would malfunction.

Williams is far too big and would keep Qawi on the end of that jab, and whenever Qawi is able to get in, he’d be able to tie him up due to the natural size advantage.

I’m not saying that Qawi wouldn’t have success, I just think a win against Williams is a step too far.

There are light heavyweights that would beat Williams, but ones that can reach him without having to get inside, but some could even get away with that, like Spinks and Moorer, but they also have the ability to land from further away.
