Carl Thompson: James Toney would beat Chris Eubank

i think he would too, James TOney is one of the best fighters ever lived,

shame he did not train harder he could have been much much more

 

Toney would've destroyed Eubank

 

He's a very good fighter, but he's not really amassed a body of work that justifies being called one of the best fighters who ever lived.

I do think he could beat Eubank prime for prime, because he could force the fight and Chris wouldn't like that. Toney would have destroyed Benn.

 

In a nutshell

 

Just thinking of those two in a fight is making me smile... imagine the build up, that would be miles better than the actual fight, the press conferences would be PPV.

 

Depends which Toney turned up. If it was the lazy Toney who couldn't really be bothered and thought turning up and slipping afew punches could win hi. The fight, like the griffin fights then no, he would probably be outworked and the fight go to a close decision.

But if it was a prime Toney who is fully motivated, I'd say he UDs eubank. No one is getting knocked out, and both are tough guys amd rarely have issues with cuts.

 

Toney would toy with Benn, wear him down and stop him in a similar fashion to Benn-Watson. Eubank would simply be out thought, out worked and out boxed by the superior fighter.

One fight I'm really disappointed we never got to see back then.

 

He would have beat them all, every great 1990's European supermiddleweight, Collins included.

 

I really love both of em, but Tony takes this IMO. I also reckon Tony eats Joe.

Chris Eubank would of ****ed Bernard Hopkins over though, Nigel Benn would of aswell.

 

James Toney has a better resume than Bernard Hopkins, and has beaten better fighters at middleweight, so has Chris Eubank, so did Nigel Benn.

Bernard Hopkins middleweight run is overrated.

 

I'd give Toney the edge, but i think it would be very close. The thing with Toney is he likes you to fight balls to the wall because he's such a great counter puncher and because he has relatively poor feet. That's why he had a great time against the likes of Barkley. Against the right opponent 'Lights Out' looked spectacular, but against guys who fought a more cautious, tactical fight with lots of movement and who gave him little countering oppurtunities, he tended to have a harder time. Chris' cageyness and underrated skillset would really give him a better chance then some might think.
