Both had the good ,fast jab to work with but neither had solid whiskers .And both had the joy of first round kos to Tyson . So who gets the win .?
Carl Williams, more gifted boxer of the two, also taller and hit harder. Seldon's best stoppage wins vs Tucker, Hipp and Ferguson came via cuts, he wasn't a hard hitter. Williams would've had no problems outboxing Seldon and then knocking him out.
He was incompetent even to pretend to have been hit by phantom punches .....Seldon was simply Patetic.
He was better than Shannon Briggs. Seldon had a period between 91--95 where he was very decent. He just didn't have a good chin and could never stand up to Tyson. Stoppage lossed to Bowe and McCall were not that bad in retrospect. Also, was decisioned by a still decent Tony Tubbs.
Williams. Decision. Going away. The big flaw with Seldon is he held that chin straight up in the air. And fought with his hands low. Lower than Williams even and that's saying something. I sure don't think he'd fare too well with all the 6'5" and taller guys that have dominated in recent times. that's defensively. Offensively he'd have a lot tougher time landing his jab. Take away the effectiveness of that jab, and what do you have? I think Carl and that long reach dominates the jab contest. And Williams had a nice--and under appreciated--left hook off the jab. That's the punch Bruce lacks in this matchup and it'd help a bunch---a left hook to come right over that low right hand of Williams. Both guys drop their hands after punching and bring them back low. And bring them back to the wrong position. Wide open for counters. But neither is all that much at counterpunching and are the get off first types.
