At what stage of his development as a fighter was Monzon when he drew with these guys?
    Was he a ranked contender?
At what stage was Hagler when he drew with Antuofermo?
    Was he a ranked contender?

Marvie Hagler was the no.1 contender when he drew with Vito.

There is the resident fool making a big deal about Valdez' 69 inch reach and the fact that he knocked Monzon down.

Marciano's reach was 68 inches ie one inch shorter, I believe he knocked a few guys down?
NB The last time the Fool ran a crusade attacking Monzon he stated that Valdez was not a big puncher , and that Monzon didn't face big punchers.
Most of us ,when we are corrected, learn from it and do not repeat our mistakes, hating fools do not.

Monzon was a top-ten ranked NBA contender when he drew with Carlos Alberto Salinas in '69, the year before he won the title. Monzon was 26 at the time and his record going in was 56-3-8, so I'd say he was probably past the development stage of his career.

Hagler drew with a world champion, in a decision many felt he won. Monzon drew with a nobody with a career record of 32-27-9!

Marciano was an inside fighter though. Valdez was not. He was an outfighter. And the fact that an outfighter could floor Monzon is amazing. The knockdown still amazes me how Monzon had his guard down for just one second, and BANG! And then he gets up in one second, and if you turned your head and watched the fight on silent, you'd never even know Monzon had been floored!

Duran obviously didn't get the 'Short Reach? Can't Score Knockdowns' memo, going into the 11th against a 6' 1" Barkley.

In his own division yes. In that way, it was no surpise that he floored Monzon. Afterall, he did floor a PRIME Bennie Briscoe and give him his only stoppage defeat, something Monzon couldn't do.

    Valdez is no 29 in the Ring's 100 top punchers.Briscoe 34;
Looking at some of Monzon's early draws and defeats.
Lost to Aguilar 16-0-0 in his 9th fight.
Lost to Cambeiro 38-8-4 in his14th fight.
Drew with Selpa118-42-25 in his 24th fight.
Drew with Ali 50-9-9 in his fight.
    Hardly terrible results?

Monzon was the NBA's #5 contender prior to his draw with Aguilar (career record 29-18-11) in '68. Monzon was 25 and 47-3-7 going into that one.

Griffith and Briscoe were just names when Antuafermo beat them.

With all due respect to Minter, he was nowhere near the Fighter Monzon was.
