I think its kind of silly that people bringing up Monzon's crimes are dismissed as moralists. Also equating his crimes with Sugar Ray Leonard's transgressions is pretty silly.

wasnt aware Leonard did anything violent out of the ring. hopefully its not true not sure about Monzon except reading some woman shot him in the early 70s I think Carlos was better than Hopkins and had great longevity. fortunately, the talent during his reign was a little dry and not very demanding top 3-5 for me
There have been guys who have held belts in subsequent years who would of had trouble sparring with Benny Briscoe. Never mind a real fight. He was a tough nights work and a quality win for Monzon. Put any middleweight in Philly during the 70s and their gonns lose some fights. Marvin Halger didnt get out of Philly unscathed.
Monzon was 1 viscious man. Never ever back down from a self-aggrandizing pompous , thinks he is smartest in the room putz like Clompton. Drive right down Main Street & "tear his fookin' 'ead off".
yeah but Marvin hadnt cracked the top ten at the time. He was more a prospect but within a year and a half, improved by leaps and bounds, then tore up those Philly fighters
