I don't think one necessarily needs the rules to discover that Argentina (and other Latin American countries) dished out Draws in abundance. A brief look at the results coming out of that region for the period confirms it. Five of Monzon's Draws were awarded inside the course of a one-year period, over nine bouts. With this in mind, how do the Draws on Monzon's record look against his going undefeated, over 80 bouts, including 15 world title fights, all of which he won? Why are these Draws so important, in light of all but one of them being resolved in rematches; that they all occurred during the first half of his career, while the other half consists of nothing but Wins? I'm not sure that the Draws add much substance to the arguments from those who level criticism against Monzon's rating.
Monzon benefited greatly by being the bigger man vs welters moving up and often had an age advantage in some key matches. As a human being he’s a real POS. I wish he fought on a bit more. This type of fighter deserves to go out a loser.
He went out the ultimate winner in Middleweight or really any history. Unbeaten last 82 fights and 13 yrs. More title defenses than anyone in his divisions history 1977. Retired unbeaten as Champion and never came back to soil his record. The ultimate career dream. Viva Monzon!!!!!!
Precisely @The Morlocks...his career post 1964 was as profoundly and decisively conclusive as any champion of history...in any division. I think Monzon is hated by the historically ignorant casuals and the 90's-babies for precisely these reasons. A more dominant champion never existed IMO. Nobody ever humbled Monzon and so his haters have to carp about a few sub-par This content is protected performances.
What top natural middle weight ( Lower weight shorter guys moving up don't count ) in his prime did Monzon beat? Please don't say the playboy Benvenuti, as he was TKO'd by Betha a few fights before, and age 33, lost to Monzon, and lost again to a no name in Jose Chirino in his very next fight, signaling he was past his prime in a very long career before he meet Monzon. One of the top ten at middle weight for sure, but his closer fights with smaller men, and older men make you wonder how he would do vs another all time great at 160 pounds. The films shows mediocre hand speed, and just solid power. History seems to have shifted lately. Monzon fans used to trumpet his 14 title defenses were the gold standard, a separation from the rest at 160. Yes, that is impressive. Since then both Hopkins and Golovkin have blown by that mark, and what Monzon fans used to say doesn't seem to apply to the modern fighters as much.
Monzon beat plenty of full fledged middles as you've been told several times before.Just like you've been told he faced good punchers which you denied was the case ! What he was like outside the ring has **** all to do with his abilities inside it!
He was appx 3 years and 4 months older than Valdes. Being 35 is an advantage over being 31 and a half??
He was older than Briscoe, Bouttier,Valdez,Tonna,Licata, Bogs,Mundine. Mendoza is a Monzon hater he doesn't think he faced any punchers,he doesn't consider Valdes a puncher, the guy is so biased its comical!
You've been absolutely owned on this subject before ,why not just trawl back and refresh your memory by re-reading your previous humiliation?
Monzon was a very good fighter, theirs no doubt about that. But even in that video posted its plain to see the best fighters he fought were natural and old welters. The size differences is that obvious. Also I see comments about how he "rag dolled" Benvinuti, but you do realize he was at the very tail end of his long distinguished career , and in between the "rag dolling" he lost to a fighter that clearly wasn't world class . In other words that's nothing to be impressed about, unless you have an agenda. Monzon was a very good Middleweight champ, and yes he deserves to be in the top 5 in my opinion but he wasn't the G.O.A.T. That goes to Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Hagler defeated better competition, when that competition was still relevant, and more importantly, the competition usually went on to win more than they loss after they fought Hagler.
Hagler won the title from Antuofermo ex L Middle Hagler defended against; Hearns ex welter Leonard 31 ex welter coming back after 3 years retirement had never fought at the weight Mugabi L Middle Duran ex lightweight32 years old Monzon was older than all but 4 of his challengers.
You can't fix the facts. Carlos best matches often feature older or smaller men. We have bene over these facts before. Benvenuti was past his best, as I said. Now if you want me to demolish you for the umpteenth time showing you the smaller or older men he fought, just ask. I can give more details If you read here, other posters not infatuated by the Monzon legend see the same thing. I've noticed you like these SOB boxers who beat on women and break laws. How noble of you.
Do you think Hearns, Leonard, and Duran, were not as good as the lower weight boxers who moved up to face Monzon???. Clearly they were better. Also note these men were in their primes, not as old as some of Monzon's best opponents. Not even you are that stupid, but just to check you can argue it here if you disagree with me. Otherwise accept the ownage on a reply to your own post. As for Mugabi he was a natural middle weight puncher, the type Monzon didn't meet.
I never said Valdes wasn't a good pound for pound puncher. He was a fighter moving up in class from welter to middle with a 69" reach, and rather short. A common theme with many of Monzon's best opponents.
I posted the opponents ,their ages, heights, and weights on a previous thread and everyone laughed at you. Hagler drew with Antuofermo a natural light middle. Defended against 31 years old Leonard, an ex welter who was coming out of 3 years retirement and had never competed at the weight! Defended against 31 years old Briscoe whom Monzon had already beaten . Defended against natural L Middle Mugabi. Defended against ex Welter Hearns. I really can't be arsed to do this again and make a **** of you once more,, especially when you are making such a good job of it all on your own! I make a difference between fighters actions in the ring and their actions outside it .What they do in the ring is what concerns and interests me. Ray Robinson beat his wife up so badly she suffered 2 miscarriages, should I leave him out of my lists of great fighters because of that ? Floyd Mayweather Jnr ,John L Sullivan,Sam Langford, Jim Corbett,Diego Corrales ,Bobby Chacon all were guilty of domestic abuse . You aren't right in the head!
