Carlos Monzon. An examination of his resume reveals

There was some info unearthed in the 80s that pointed to a LT heavyweight championship being fought in 1899 with Choynski winning but the strange thing is I can't find any mention of Choynski claiming he was LT hwt champion.

Okay. Fitz was not a blown-up light-heavy. He was a blown up middleweight.

But the whole point is mute. Monzon fought 15 middleweight title fights. In 12 of them the weight edge was less than 1 lb. either way (five times Monzon had less than a one pound edge, five times his opponent had less than a one pound edge, two fights had even weights).

So in only three fights are we even talking about one pound. One, the second Griffith fight, Monzon had a 1 & 3/4 lb. weight edge. He had a 4 & 1/2 lb. edge in the first Griffith fight, and a 6 & 1/2 lb. edge against Napoles.

As a percentage of body weight, if Monzon weighed 206 (as Jeff did against Fitz), Napoles to be equal would come in at 197 (not 167 as Fitz did)

Yes, Jeff fought heavies, but Monzon fought middles. 14 of his 15 championship were against men whose weight was in the middleweight division as currently defined. Only Napoles was under that weight.

One of the supposedly blown-up fighters, Valdez, had been fighting at middle for years and actually outweighed Monzon for their first fight.
