Monzon didn't struggle,Griffith is described as being outclassed in that report.Did you actually read it?:huh

    Try again!

"The end came at 2:46 of the round with Griffith crouched helplessly in his corner as a sellout crowd of 23,000 went wild in Luna Park. Griffith, the 33 year old New Yorker, simply was outclassed by the younger, taller Argentine. For most of the fight Monzon was content to stab Griffith with crisp jabs mixed with occasional right hands as Griffith moved forward trying to land a damaging punch. There was little doubt that Griffith was badly hurt when Mexican referee Ramon Berumen stopped the bout. Griffith was hunched over with his arms dangling at his sides and Monzon pounding away at will."

Here is the fight ,apart from trying to keep Griffith's head out of his face show me where Monzon struggles?:huh
The second fight was a unanimous decision for Monzon.
Winning by scores of 2 points,3 points, and 4 points indicates not that close a fight.
BTW Griffith was the number one contender when Monzon defended against him.

and while they punch each other they yell their insults at each other

that would be amazing, don't tell me you wouldn't like to see that as well, we should get a "fund" going to match these two up, Rummy could do a video about it :good

oh, and if mcvey is too old all we have to do is handicap Mendoza a little bit to even it all out, maybe bust one of his arms or something to make it fair :rasta

all the money could go to charity :deal

put the entire lead up and fight on Youtube and it would probably bring in more forum members and viewership for this site :hat

I would rather watch those two fight then Vlad/Fury 2 :bbb

This is a brilliant post on several levels. This post is bigger than this thread, bigger than this board, nay... bigger than religion.

    It's a really good post.

How dare you call Tonna, Bouttier, Bogs and Mundine really weak fighters ?
Ohhhh they were foreign fighters - and as such automaticly weaker than all the great US fighters who never got the chance to beat Monzon.
They were well deserved challengers. And Monzon did not duck anybody.

Too old now,I've step- sons older than Mendoza ,and Mendoza is already handicapped ,he has no cojones.

It's ancient history anyway, but my pms and public thread to him asking when and where he was landing should be traceable if anyone was sufficiently curious.

The guy is ret*rded he makes a post ridiculing ,and calling me a moron for a grammatical mistake HE made!

I'll bet he wishes he never started this thread because it has sure come back to bite him in his ignorant a*se.

One positive from it ,it encouraged me to revisit some of Monzon's fights. Carlos was a fighter that never grabbed me but there is no doubt he bossed the ring and was always effective playing to his strengths, and forcing his opponents to fight his fight.
Mendoza has made some absurd claims on this thread :
Valdez was not a big puncher.
Monzon was not .a hard puncher
Valdez was past his best at 29.
Monzon never faced a big puncher,[what were Valdez,Mundine and Briscoe?]
Many of Monzon's challengers were undersized ,past it,and old. I'll concede Napoles.

Griffith was 33 and the number one contender,[if Monzon had not fought him,I'm sure Mendoza would be accusing him of ducking the Virgin Islander].
All in all a very strange stance from Mendozy, but then he is a very strange chap:think

ps I picked Wlad to beat Fury, next time my £££ goes on Tyson, and it might be an early night!

Klompton is very knowledgeable,[maybe not as much as he thinks], but like most of us he has his likes and dislikes. His dislikes include ,Tunney, and Carpentier ,about whom he never has a positive word to say.

I doubt he will enjoy being in the same camp as Mendoza, but he hasn't made all the silly claims Mendozy has.

You're conviction is wrong I don't enjoy his style at all.He was awkwardly very effective but definitely not my flavour.
As a human being he was a **** too ,not that that should interfere with our assessment of him as a fighter.

You think because I disagree with Mendozy and to some extent you,I have an obsession with Monzon?
I think you need to give this thread the same objectivity you have on other threads .
I think you have been lazy here and just swallowed ,"the party line",closer scrutiny reveals flaws in it.
Watch the fights, read the write ups then make an unbiased evaluation.:good

I just think Monzon is a little overrated in the ring. Some other posters agreed and peeling back the onion reveals most of best wins were over smaller fighters moving up or in some cases past their prime fighters.

I listed his five best wins to be debated, but instead of debate, we saw some fanboys types trying to troll.

Admittedly Monzon is not a guy I like. He's a real POS outside the ring.
