Fantastic Rooster..and some of that footage..against Denny Moyer, Tom Boggs and the second Bouttier fight I've never been able to find. Never thought I'd ever see a Monzon highlight reel, and the music was excellent.
And very clever how the shot of him getting hurt is isolated, seen as though we've discussed it so much on here. It's a great vid. The start is my fave part, and how the commentator closes the show at the end.
In getting clocked by Briscoe, recovering from it and going on to win in the manner in which he did...by standing and trading with Briscoe in the late rounds, Monzon made that move from a "very good" to a "great" fighter.
He was pretty exciting and had power not in just his right but his left aswell. He's one of the greatest middleweights and I might just get his career set.
Outstanding. Thanks so much!! Well done. Shows how effective Monzon was. Great balance, technique, and fighting spirit.
He was something else. I was never a big supporter of him at the time as he was very unimpressive to me against old man Emile, and those two bouts still are the worst of him to me, but I have to admit the volumn of his work has to make him one of the top men all time if not the number 1 middle. I wonder alot how the Robby of the second Turpin bout would have done against him? Any thoughts?
Monzon UD 15 Robinson. Also, remember his second fight with Griffith was in 1973 just after he had been shot. Both his fights in 1973 were his least impressive. It seems as though by 1974 he was fully recovered and back to form. In his first fight with Griffith (1971) he dominated every round before stopping him in 14. It was a rough fight but Carlos dominated.
