That's my favourite, too. If you meant "favourite" by "gruelling brutality".

Monzon would have been a stylistic nightmare for SRR. Monzon, I am convinved, would have won a 15 round decision over Robinson.

Brilliant, brilliant video. Monzon was a fighter I found it difficult to get into when I first discovered him, but I have grown to appreciate him over the last couple of years. I think he was the best middle h2h of all-time.

Monzon and Marciano are fighters you need dig into to realise how great they were. They don't look like great fighters at first glance.

bodhi, agreed! You know at the time boxing scribes across the board were not that high on Monzon. I remember their comments on his style as abit herky jerky and generally they would give credance to his wins due to his height and arm length advantages more then ability, and in error I had agreed then also. Only later did I begin to appreciate how he was a master of keeping his opponents at the end of his punches and distance himself so correctly to both hit and escape so well. As for Robby against him I have to believe in a first go Monzon would dominate him, but in a rematch I think he would adjust his great skills to come out on top as he did against Turpin. There were times when Monzon was open to right hand leads as in the second Griffith bout, and Emile was quite slowed down at that point but knew how to time them. I see Robby doing the same, perhaps enough to both hurt and shade him in a second go.

Once again, a beautifully put together piece..and what gets me, as I've been looking at Monzon-Briscoe II, both in it's entirety as well as on this highlight reel, how comparitively fluid and effective Monzon was in being able to land on Bennie so damned much. I've always thought it's Monzon at his best. left hook, jabs, right hands, and he moves very well in this fight..not the slow, awkward, static fighter he's made out to be so much. A very impressive performance that also showed off his world class chin and amazing recuperative powers.

Hagler & Greb are the only ones that would be "even money" with Monzon in betting.

MW version of SRR would be an underdog...even though he could win with
a Fullmer II type left hook.

I would favour Hagler and Hopkins over Monzon H2H, they just have clearly superior boxing skills. Roy Jones would be a favourite over him too IMO. And Greb would just destroy him, the guy handled heavyweights.

I worry about Monzon's right fist contacting Roy's jaw.

(See Nino B. going down like a sack of potatoes for an example)

Truely amazing fighter. I think with the exception of harold greb, this guy is the best 160 man there has ever been. (maybe leave out fitz as well!)
This highlight also seems to show the speed, fluidity, power,AND his ability to fight of the back foot 'offensively' which not even a great like ray leonard could do consistently. Its a poke in the eye for all those who say monzon was robotic or slow, the video evidence disproves this totally...
P4p i feel hes criminally overlooked.

Longhorn, if Monzon were to connect with Roy's jaw (and he would) the first 3 or 4 rows of the crowd would have to be specially protected with a cover of some kind, like at a Gallagher performance, to shield them from the flying shards of broken glass.

Nice to see some appreciation for Monzon! Clever, courageous fighter who threw punches in combination, had good footwork and head movement. Thanks for posting this clip.
