Man had his problems and temper which outbreaked some times thats for sure. He did what he did and was senteced for it, no excuses for him. But I think he was very confused and lost person (look at Tyson) rather than a "bad" person.

Anyone hear the rumour monzon squared off against the actor Mickey Rourke ? Dont know if its common knowledge or old news or simply bull****.I hear it was in jail when both were banged up and it ended in the first from a jab by monzon

This is true. Mickey was a big fan of Monzon. He even named one of his dogs after him.

Bunce said on the show that Rourke went to visit Monzon in "jail" and that they sparred. (apparently Monzon was such a legend in Argentina that his jail was more like a hotel)

Monzon is one of my favorite fighters and my number 1 middleweight of all time. He was a convicted muderer. Very unfortunate but not something I consider when watching him fight. I think the lack of handspeed issue is overstated. He had great accuracy and timing and I just can't think of a fight where somebody made him miss consistently. He beat a very underrated (IMO) middleweight in Valdez twice at the end of his career. He beat Griffith twice, who I know moved up but certainly proved himself at Middleweight. Benvenuti was very good at middleweight. And guys like Bouttier, Mundine, Bogs, an aging Moyer were at least equal to some of Hagler's victims: Sibson, Scypion, Obel. Briscoe was better than any of those guys and a big middleweight. I'd say an agin, up in weight Napoles probably beats some of those guys too.

I heard that Monzon coldcocked him with the first punch he threw, I think a right hand. In an interview, Rourke said that it was a mark of pride for him to eat that punch.
