Good vid. Thanks for posting, hadn't seen that before. The combo that ends it is ferocious, should show it to anyone that thinks Monzon is 'plodding' :good

    GOOD WORK DOWNLOADING THE FIGHT.

Tony Mundine was a great talent but had huge problems making the 160lb weight.

Coming into this fight Mundine was 47-3-1 including a win by KO over Emile Griffith. He also held the Commonwealth middleweight title as well as both the Australian heavyweight and middleweight titles.

He started well against Monzon but lacked power and fatigued early after years of wasting. It was no surprise that he stepped up to light heavyweight 12 months later before going on to capture both the Commonwealth and Australian light heavyweight belts.

Claims that he didn't have a good chin are made by those that lack understanding. Mundine's struggle to stay at middleweight was in an era where the next step was up to light heavyweight and it drained him severely. He was constantly doing long road runs covered in synthetic material and it affected his ability to recover whenever he took heavy punishment. It's a simple fact that unless you're healthy and strong you won't absorb the clean power shots and recovery will be poor.

After departing middleweight he settled at a comfortable fighting weight of 175lbs although he did weigh in at 179lbs when he defeated Steve Aczel for the Australian heavyweight title. In his career he fought five times for the Australian heavyweight title winning all by KO and finished his career at 80-15-1 with 64 wins by KO.

Mundine did not KO Griffith ajay.

There seems to be a section of aussie fans who are quick to jump down anyone throats when they claim Mundine did not have a good beard. But the fact is relative to the rest of his game and the level he was fighting at it was not that good.

He was knocked out for the count by welterweight before the weight was troubling him..He was knocked out by mediocre lightheavies after he moved up so I cant see why weight would be an issue there because he was quite successful at the weight outside of these fights.

I cant stress any harder its all relative though..He fought in a very strong middleweight division, one of the strongest ever with some guys who had ATG chins, and his overall game was very solid, he just about had everything at world class levels but his chin was definitely a weakness of his.

Agreed. I don't see how anyone can deny this. A man that skilled and talented shouldn't get knocked out in one round against Dave Lee Royster and James Marshall unless he has some chin problems.
