What fights of his have you seen?

Maybe this is said too often of him, but you really have to look deep to realize how great and, as already stated, effective he was. He was perhaps the ultimate ring general. His jab was excellent, his ability to control range, his precision, his defense (at his best he didn't get hit cleanly often), his arsenal of punches, and combined with his phsyical attributes of reach, strength, stamina, and one of the best chins in history, the man was near impossible to beat by anyone his own size.

He clearly has the best resume of all the truly dominant Middleweight champions, and he never once suffered defeat once he hit his peak. There is a reason for that.

No, I'm not underrating Monzon, I'm pointing things out that I feel are overrated about him. And this quote right here " And he would pulverize Michael Nunn! " is exactly the reason why I say he's a little overrated. Griffith and Benvenuti would have been soundly beaten by some of the other middleweights I've mentioned, Nunn included.

That's what I meant by him looking slightly overrated on film. If you just watch one of his fights like an average fan he does not look special, you gotta dig a little deeper to realize the control he has over his opponents. The lean back defense of his may not be the prettiest but it made guys miss alot and when they did land the impact was diminished.

Both Griffith and Benvenuti would have beaten Nunn, Benvenuti would probably have stopped him in the early-mid rounds with a hook akin to that which obliterated Luis Manuel Rodriguez, and Griffith would have ground him down and stopped him in a similar fashion to James Toney, being outboxed by Nunn for most of the early part of the fight, then gradually taking control in the later rounds and breaking him. Michael Nunn does not belong in the same arena as Carlos Monzon, that fight would be utter domination. I suggest you study Monzon a little more closely, as you are way off mark here.

I find it funny that when I picture Monzon and Michael Nunn standing shoulder to shoulder, I imagine Monzon being on par, or almost on par with Nunn's height. Was Monzon ever in the ring with someone taller than him? He looked slightly taller than Benvenuti. I'm not insinuating Monzon is overrated, just wanted to pick a thread to post this in.

Does he have the worse opposition a famous middleweight has faced?
