Ok, so I am wondering who do you favor (if anyone) against carlos monzon. he was a good puncher and was hell from the outside and was deadly on the inside, who gives him problems, who beats him.

I guess I just want to know what the classic forum thinks of the guy. I heard he smoked cigarettes throughout his career, I also heard he did not use running exersise- but then I read that he once ran 3 miles before the weigh-ins just to make weight (I think he came in 159 lbs).

I think Jake lamota would definitely trouble monzon because he was near impossible to put away, and was a swarming type fighter monzon would have trouble keeping him at a distance. I think monzon would still win by a dec.

Marvin Hagler, Ray Robinson, Stanley Ketchel, Harry Greb would they beat a monster like monzon?:think

so....will you discuss Carlos Monzon classic forum? :cheers

Coming forward and moving backwards, i feel Hagler has him beat. Just an all slightly better fighter and slightly tougher.

Robinson i feel may struggle with his come forward style, but its more methodical and not as in your face as Lamotta. I dont want to say Monzon could be KOed, but Robinson's speed and power would make Monzon think twice of pressing the action. And he isnt outboxing Robinson.

Look, i know Beinstock and crew are gunna come in here and overwhelm my opinion with their set in stone myths and legends, but theres no film on Greb and everyone else from that era looks very primitive and wouldnt compete in recent times. I've seen Ketchel on film and seriously guys, you must see the same thing...he grapples, throws one arm punch...grapples for another 5 minutes, rinse and repeat. Monzon crushes them both

Im not sure about hagler winning if he did it would be a tough fight.

as far as greb and ketchel I cant say because I dont know too much about their abillities.

Hagler is a good call but i give a better chance to Tommy Hearns simply because of the style of punching. I see Hagler loosing on points if he can not stop Monzon where as i see Hearns Monzon a close points win. Ray Robinson would struggle with Monzon at 160, at 160 Monzon is H2H number 1.

Yeah monzon seems like a nightmare for anyone at 160.

you favor hearns with his reach and quick jab and boxing abillity, but what about hearn's chin. monzon seems to me to be a sneaky and accurate puncher with his right hand, if it lands it would be real trouble for hearns.

Monzon has a great right hand, but so does Hearns. Monzon definatley has the better chin , will he KO hearns , i dont think so. The fight would be won on points and its literaly anyones game from there. I would think who ever is the more agressive would win on points and look dominant in the last few rounds. Both men like streight punches and Herans has reach and speed giving him some advantage. Monzon may put Hearns down which would account for the rounds where Tommy is winning with the jab.

The fight is very hard to call i still pick Monzon but i think Hearns on points is the best chance to beat a 160 Monzon. Roy Jones Jr may have a good shot too with his amazing speed and reflexes , he also has good power. Maybe 1993 Jones from the Bhop fight has a better chance of beating Monzon but thats getting spacific now isnt it?

Randy Shields said Tommy was not strong in the clinches, especially as their match progressed. Shields was hampered with an injured shoulder going in, and he was certainly no Hamsho in the strength department. I'm convinced the spindly Hearns would find himself progressively and inexorably enervated until crumbling in the championship rounds as Monzon brutalized him. King Carlos had too much for him in strength, chin and endurance.

Thats not fair. Hypothetically its easy to side with boxing skills, but Monzon was very physically imposing and emotionally unhinged. His power i would liken to Marciano. Not a one punch KO artist, but every single punch thrown looks like it hurts and he continues to throw at his own forced pace. I think it'd be very disheartening to fight such a man. I see only Robinson's power backing him up and only Hagler's boxing ability/tougness, outfighting him. Jones Jr i see outboxing him. Thomas Hearns i see being KOed.

I think we've learned PP just likes to wind people up. Here's a video made by TheGreatA:

Anyone who would describe this guy as **** is blindly biased.

I was having a laugh, but in all seriousness he's a good all rounder, very consistant that isn't particularly special and didn't have particularly impressive competition, aside from the past prime smaller opponents.

*Sigh* I haven't been able to study Monzon as much as I wanted to and the only fight I've seen from him is his first fight with Nino(brutal ko BTW). I feel a little guilty because I'm a big fan of the other MW's from the big 3(Hagler and Hopkins).
