Monzon takes on the young Billy Conn at middleweight.
15 rounds...What's your view? Conn was thrown in with alot of tough opponents for his apprenticeship in becoming a great professional fighter...would he have the experience for Monzon? How does Monzon react in the ring, with someone who offsets his physical adavantges at middle?

Monzon loses his advantage of height and power and struggles with Conn's speed movemnt and good power...Conn UD 15

I also like Conn by decision.

I think Monzon wins a decision during the years when Conn was fighting at middleweight. Conn matured at lightheavy and I think the lightheavy version of Conn handles Monzon if Carlos decides to step up. This would be a great fight, though.

    You know what Fog,

Conn was a hell of a middleweight. He beat alot of hall of famer middleweights, many of the best middles of the 1930s. Conn vs thil or steele would have been classics

Well, you are right. Conn has a good shot at middle, but he was edged at that weight by Corbett, Krieger, and Yarosz. I have to go with Monzon as his reign at middleweight was possibly the most dominant of any champion at any weight. Certainly Conn would be a helluva test, though.

I've never seen Conn at middleweight, but I doubt he'd had the savvy and all-around development he showed at light-heavyweight and heavyweight. While Conn does present a tough style for Monzon, one must also take into account that Conn was even at his most mature able to make strategic mistakes, something one can't accuse Carlos of.

I suspect Monzon would grind out a very close decision, mainly by picking up later rounds and beating an early lead. At light-heavyweight, I'd pick Conn.

Well, at middleweight I never pick against Monzon, as I think he was the best, pure and simple, but at lightheavy he would have been out of his waters, his natural weight class and I don't think he would have fared as well. There were guys who knew where to stay, weight division-wise, like Monzon, Hagler and very few others, and I never contemplate too much any scenario that would have taken, for example, either one of these guys outside of what their natural and ONLY weight class.

Pretty much agreed. Monzon is the perhaps greatest middleweight of all-time, but that, as cobra said, is exactly what he was - a middleweight. We don't know for sure how Carlos would have fared at 175, though sense dictates that his effectiveness would have diminished. So it's another vote in this corner for Conn.

Does anyone think that Conn's low KO ratio would be a factor here though? Not saying that it would, as Billy had many other attributes to compensate with. But Foster, Galindez and Conteh in Monzon's era all hit harder than Conn, which was perhaps one of the reasons that people look back at Monzon fighting at lightheavy in his own era with such skepticism. Even though Carlos had a steel jaw at 160.

Right. Wrong opponent, wrong weight class.
