Monzon wins a 10-2 type decision with Eubank taking quite a horrible beating by the end. In a 15 rounder i wouldn't rule out a late stoppage because of the pounding Chris would be getting.
No, Eubank had a great chin and took Benn`s best shots, Monzon may have stopped Chris because he had a tendency to gas.
Monzon out works Chris in a hard fight .Eubank has his moments tough night for both guys.Chris would look good with an afro I think.
I think you're vastly overrating Eubank if you believe that. He wouldnt be competitive in this fight. Theres a big gap in class, but moreover, Monzon is a HORRIBLE style for Eubank because he wouldnt come at him. He'd bludgeon Eubank with the jab from distance, leaving Eubank no alternative by to launch his wild overhand rights, which Monzon would evade then counter. Monzon would stop Eubank. Yes, I said it. One had all time great stamina and the other had **** poor stamina. One had genius level ring IQ, and the other had an extremely low ring IQ. It wouldn't be a clean KO, but by the late rounds the beating would be so one sided that the ref would intervene for a mercy stoppage. Eubank is overrated beyond belief. Absurdly overrated. He has NOTHING in his bag of tricks to hang with Monzon. Nothing.
On Monzon's resume alone, Eubank loses to Benvenuti, Griffith, Valdez, and Briscoe. The ole lisper is simply not a historically great middleweight.
Agree with a lot of what @Xplosive has said. I love Eubank as a character and yield to nobody in my admiration for his toughness and bravery in the ring. But he just wasn't a top-draw fighter. I think people see Eubank's poise, showboating and regal style of strutting around and mistake it for skill. But while he was of course proficient in the basics, there really wasn't anything particularly skilful, balanced or technically impressive about his game, unless he was facing a hand-picked domestic level fighter. His work rate and accuracy was abysmal at times, and he almost flung himself to the ground or turned himself full circle when he swung wildly with that right hand on occasion. His two best wins (Benn I, Watson II) were really achieved by him soaking up punishment and outlasting / out-toughing the other guy to win while he trailed on points. He won on heart and durability as much as anything else. That wouldn't be enough against Monzon, though. Eubank didn't like it to the body either, and Carlos is definitely going to test him there. Eubank was such a determined and hard man that he could very well last the distance, but it would be a very painful and wide points beating for him.
For once, everyone agrees on who would rightfully win a matchup. In all fairness, Monzon was a greater boxer than Eubank. Eubank was very tough and powerful, and would probably give Monzon fits, but just like all of the middlweights of the 70s, Monzon would ultimately beat him, probably by decision. Monzon was probably the most unstoppable fighter of all time.
