OMG, I had to go with a draw this was so tough. Monzon was pretty near damn unstoppable, but Tiger was a relentless hammerhead opponent in his prime. This would be very close. The two could fight every night for the next year and the outcome would be a close decision each and every time.
The Nigerian was an outstanding fighter. I think It would depend on how quickly Tiger realised he was losing the boxing match and decided to make it a fight.
I will take Carlos Monzon over D. Tiger by a TKO 11. Tiger was a very tough fighter but his skills would play into Monzon's style. Tiger would be as aggressive as Rodrigo Valdes was in their two fights except Carlos does not knock Tiger down, nor does Tiger deck Carlos. Tiger walks into the long left of Monzon's, then eats the counters to the body and head. Then the booming right that has produced 61 KO's connects to the head of Tiger, who has tried to employ a body attack, only to be constantly pushed away by Carlos. The referee steps in to save Tiger in round 11, after two booming rights leave Tiger helpless. Actually Carlos Monzon's nickname was The Shotgun in Spanish by the way.
A good, tough fight! I've always been a huge Tiger fan and would be rooting for him here, but Monzon had a way of gaining control of a fight and dominating. I think that's what would happen here and pick Monzon to win a UD.
Monzon wins without a doubt. He may not stop the durable Tiger but he's going to swell his face up something nasty by the end of it. Monzon is like the anti-Tiger. His style of fighting at range and keeping space will cause the flat footed Tiger no end of problems. His rangey build and super long jab is going to be like arsenic for the stocky Tiger who liked to mix it up close. Tiger always had problems with jab-heavy boxers that kept it at range and in Monzon we have arguably the best in MW history at doing just that.
Monzon by late Ko. For all his faults out side of the ring, inside he was more or less a perfect fighter. He'd take Tigers best punches on his rock hard chin. He'd have Tiger weakened by his long jab and catch him with deadly upper cuts. A bruised and battered Tiger sinks to the floor and says no mas.
