Battle between two of the biggest middles ever. I won't ask who would because it's 99% clear that ATG Monzon would, could Barkley last the distance and cause him some difficulties?
Barkley beat Tommy on a stylistic advantage, but he lost to everyone else basically. Monzon beats him on TKO in about round 8. Had Tommy not been stopped in round 3 in 1988, he was about to stop Barkley by TKO 4.
Monzon has seen much more agression then Barkley could provide. I wonder how Barkley would cope with Briscoe much less Monzon.
That big long Monzon right hand...coming in behind the Jab...is bound to find a home on the Barkley Noggin ! Iran is tough...but once Carlos slips into his Mid-fight Groove...the shots would land with ever increasing regularity...If Olajide could have Iran Down... Sooner or Later Carlos would..and he would not relinquish the upper hand...with Carlos Being a slowish starter...perhaps a stoppage circa 11th might be expected.
Monzon starts Barkley on his way out with a methodical, syatematic beating, then puts him away in the 11th with a few of those big right hands. Two separate universes for these two in terms of skill and ability.
Everything about this fight suggest massive pain for Barkley. Iran is brave enough and Monzon sadistic enough for this to be a frightening, bloody 15 round gore-fest. This fight must be Max Mosley's boxing wet dream...
