A huge factor will be the time of the weigh in ... if it is the day before and Toney has the full day to recover he will come in at about 175 .. at that weight he should be able to outpoint Monzon and keep up the stamina needed to hold him of late ... Toney took the shots of Peter, Rachman and Holyfield ... I think he can handle Monzon's power .. main question regarding Toney is stamina at 160 since we never saw him go 15 .. Monzon would be strong till the end and make it close ...
Monzon was a greater Middleweight and a greater fighter...I like Monzon by UD or a late TKO if Carlos goes to the body aggressively
Would somebody please enlighten me as to exactly how they think Carlos is going to be knocking the iron-chinned, super-slick Toney out with his usual run, hold, run, hold, run, hold, rabbit punch routine? This isn't little Nino we're talking about here.
He's going to have his corner secretly brush pizza grease on his gloves, and Toney will eat every punch on instinct.
I think the best Toney vs the best Monzon ends up with Toney winning a close but clear points win even over 15
Although Monzon is the greater fighter, I think its very possible that Toney could win this, the shoulder roll would be very effective against Monzon plus Toneys inside fighting abilitys, but I'm going with Monzon to wins this with his range and great ring genrelship. one thing thats for certain it is going the distance, no way a stoppage is happening. This would be a very competive fight, great to watch. Monzon 15 Rd Ud
Monzon by 11-4ish decision. Different level of fighter. Toney would be seeing that jab in his face all, and whether it lands or not, it will dictate the pace of the bout. Toney was always better on the back foot at any weight and he'd be forced to come forward in this fight. The best Toney doesn't beat Monzon, and the inconsistent, weight drained Toney (the one with all the built in excuses) surely doesn't beat Monzon.
Now, did we see the best middleweight Toney against Tiberi, Jones, Jr., Sanderline Williams, or an old ass McCallum? He kinda sucked at middleweight and was very inconsistent.
