For this one, I am again undecided, Nunn could take a decision here or Monzon could force his will and score a brutal grinding down TKO. Anything with Monzon gets interesting.
I see it exactly the same. Of course Liles beat Nunn on points so a decision win for Monzon isn't out of the question either. In a 15 rounder Monzon would probably stop Nunn between rounds 11 and 15.
I'll take Monzon a lot more confidently in this one, more due to durability reasons. Over 15 rounds anyway, 12 rounds is a closer call, though I'd likely still favor Monzon by stoppage. I think he'd box and press like he did with Benvenuti, fight dirty in scrambles, and eventually make it harder and harder for Nunn to keep it in the middle of the ring, or at a distance. It's not as if Monzon would be getting badly outboxed on the outside either though, Nunn's quickness is his only advantage.
For those who are picking Mozon, show me how he copes from the outside against someone as polished, and quick as Nunn. I would LOVE to see some footage of him fighting a similar opponent and how he overcame the difference. Keeping in mind, Nunn was an elite level fighter of course.
People love to call nunn an underachiever and all that other crap but the fact is monzon, hagler and hopkins have never beaten a natural middleweight thats as good as him.
Show me where Nunn beat an opponent on Monzon's level. The argument can go on forever in circles using that to make your point.
Sometimes I wonder if that's not the plan all along- not to throw out an opinion and leave it at that, but to drag people into the abyss of arguing for the sake of arguing
Sosa and Barkley were extremely strong, yet crude middleweight, both of whom Nunn had success against. Stylistically i would say they are pretty close to the way Monzon fought, although Monzon is probably a better "boxer" then both of these guys.. I could point out Donald Curry as well then for boxing ability, although he is different to Monzon again. Nunn would always be at risk because of the power of Monzon, and the fact he didn't have the worlds best chin. Monzon would be at risk because Nunn is the superior boxer. I will leave it at that. I would personally put my money on Nunn... Close fight though, could go either way IMO.
Monzon was simply unbeatable, I don't care what anyone says about footage and so on, he alters his game plan to cope with the quick southpaw Nunn, survives an early scare and takes Nunn out of the game in the 10th.
Monzon loses a bunch of early rounds. Nunn tended to embarrass fighters early. Monzon is patient, and persistant though, wears him down and stops him late. Monzon was an animal at his peak. Monzon KO 10
