Nunn was a great athlete very underrated, not very famous among casual fans, underrated guy. It is plausible that he would be winning on the cards but monzon had an extra gear and he would tko nunn in the round 13.(in a 15 rounder)
Monzon catches up to Nunn and slowly breaks him down to a late stoppage after adjusting to Nunn's speed and flashy style.
Nunn had great radar and a considerable hand speed advantage. Maybe it is just me, but Monzon never looked that impressive on film to me. I have a hard time seeing Monzon scoring a KO due to Nunn's reflexes. And it is hard to beat Nunn on points
What specifically impressed you about Monzon? I don't see fast hands or one punch power. I see a grinder type with solid skills, often fighting smaller or older men. I'll go with Nunn to win on points. Simply too fast for Carlos, and Monzon didn't hit hard enough to turn the tides with one punch.
I see Carlos Monzon winning this one by TKO 14, sure Nunn is very quick and a good boxer, but Monzon slowly wears down Michael with his persistence, long left jab and counter punching for the late victory despite some difficulty early.
Can't see a moving Nunn lose to anyone other an aggressive Benn (six rounds with Benn too many to escape without one in a mill jaw). Nunn was just too good, long and awkward.
Don't make me laugh, Benn's the last fighter anyone has an easy time against! Maybe the most ferocious fighter and dangerous puncher I've seen, nobody had those natural leverages mixed with that aggression. Nobody evades an all-out Benn at 11st6lb on a same-day weigh-in for six rounds, it's too many rounds, it's impossible. Anyone else, the fully moving Nunn beats. Ever. Pretty much impossible to beat him on points.
I am impressed by Monzon's jab and his ability to control the pace of a fight. I think Monzon was deceptively quick with his hands. His hands looked slow at times, but if you watch the second Valdez fight, he thre some very quick combinations late in the fight
