Monzon comes through an early storm to stop Benn with methodical right hands as soon as Nigel slows down. Around round 5-7.
Monzon calm and collected manages do deal with the wild always coming forward Benn, making Benn miss while peppering him with jabs and the occasional right hand, by the seventh Monzon has Benn tamed and ready for the take he finishes of a very tired Nigel with one big right hand. Monzon KO 7.
I would say if he had wanted, Monzon could of 'fought fire with fire'. Benn was that crude, Monzon could of gone on an uncharacteristic bombing job, and taken Benn out real early if he wanted. But I take a 'Watsonesque' type performance, with Monzon letting Benn blow himself out to win in the early middle rounds.
Benn definitely has a punchers chance against any middleweight in history but it's a very thin chance here. Monzon would close both the eyes of Nigel and would stop him mid rounds.
Benn is a favorite of mine, but I don't fancy his chances here, agree with others here I see it lasting 7-8 rounds in Monson's favor. It would be a great fight while it lasted, I think Benn would have moments of success but Monson is a far more complete fighter and would always dismantle someone as crude as Benn imo.
Monzon: Cool, consistent, and very good in every area. Benn: Hot-headed, erratic, and with glaring defects in his game. I agree Monzon turns it on in the form of higher accuracy and pressure once Benn slows a bit. I don't know if its as early as the 7th, but Monzon keeps tagging Benn with laser-straight punches while maintaining he distance and pace he chooses until Benn crumbles.
Briscoe had Monzon briefly out on his feet, but Carlos quickly recovered. Benns only chance is to hurt Monzon and keep punching.
If Benn hurt Monzon, he'd get worn out and frustrated very quickly in trying to follow up and Monzon would pound him unconscious. He'd be soooo much easier than Briscoe for Monzon.
