After such a gruelling schedule: Kalambay, Toney, Reggie Johnson, Nunn and Eubank (all wins by KO, of course) Monzon suddenly gets old overnight and loses by first round KO to Jones.
After a very semi-competitive fight (Eubank) where monzon scores a comfortable decision.....he has an easier night against (Toney) and takes a wide decision....Now clicking on all cylinders, he falls behind on the cards to RJJ, but around the 8th he gets the timing and range figured out in the 11th still trailing on the cards Monzon wobbles RJJ, and Jones goes down....Monzon by 11th rd KO
a safety first jones takes it by decision. i wouldn't rule out monzon knocking him out at some point due to the glass that jones carries. but overall, it's a bad match up for monzon. the speed would be a problem for him. plus jones wouldn't engage much.
A very competitive fight for 9 rounds..it eventualy turns Monzons way by the 10th, via a knockown, and he holds off a rally by Roy..gets very rough with him and stopshim in the 14th round.
I'm going to say prety much the same thing for this thread that I did for the Monzon/Toney thread. I'm picking Carlos Monzon , but If Roy Jones Jr. were to win I would not be surprised at all.
This one inevitably comes down to speed. Rather, Monzon's lack of it. Hence Jones taking a resounding UD.
Monzon would never win more rounds than Jones, Jones is way too fast, though i wouldn't rule out Monzon knocking him out or stopping him by any means, otherwise Jones UD.
