Carlos Monzon vs. Roy Jones Junior

I like rjj in this one his combination of speed and power would prove to be a bit too much (no disrespect to monzon). rjj by UD

Monzon, ko late.

Nobody is going to beat a Carlos Monzon dangling their left hand at their kneecap for 60 minutes. That right hand is going to land and it was not a telegraphed punch.

The other problem I see for Jones in this matchup is his activity level. He only throws about 40 punches a round and likes those breathers where nothing happens. That's when he's at his best. Monzon has an alltime great chin and is the rare breed that doesn't alter things 1 iota when he gets hit. Jones is not even all that accurate w/ those 40 punches butl likes to tag a guy early and get their respect and then Jones fights from that comfy zone of his. Early in the bout Jones can use those legs to stay away, but Monzon was a master at cutting off the ring & forced guys to fight 3 minutes per round and was very physical in there--kidney punches/rabbit punches/forearm to the throat/pushing and shoving/etc.The conditioning for Jones is going to be a lot different in the 8th round than the 2nd round. What happens to those legs? And that early advantage in speed? And Monzon was a guy that got stronger as the fight wore on & simply didn't fade. That would help the Jones chances a ton if he fought a guy that fades and then the Jones defense and hand placement don't become such a big factor. But a drained gas tank from fighting every second is a thing Monzon did to everyone.
The only physical fighters I saw Jones matched with were Castro and Johnson and & those A+ results aren't there. As a matter of fact, Jones couldn't handle the work ethic and pressure of an old Johnson at 175. Monzon is off the scale pressure wise compared to those 2 and you can't afford to hold your hands low against a Monzon and not get clipped. Also, Monzon was a finisher of the highest order and once he got a guy ready to go, they went.

 

He throws 40 punches a round at light heavyweight (his opponents, on average, throw almost twice lower than their usual punchrate, there were almost no exceptions to this rule, even Glen Johnson threw less punches per round than Compubox's 175lbs average).
At 160 or 168 you can expect Jones throwing 60-80 punches per round without even being winded at the end of the fight.

 

I can accept if someone thinks they are better, after all it's opiniomn, but 'different class' is a very telling statement.
