Monzon was one of the best three middleweights ever,so I can't see Kalambay beating him. Sumbu's cute enough to last the distance, though, unless he gets caught with one of those once in a lifetime shots that Michael Nunn caught him with. Monzon by decision.
Monzon wins this by stoppage in the late rounds of 15 rounder . After nine rounds kalambay may be ahead by a pt or two maybe but monzon takes control in the later rounds. If a twelve rounder then monzon by close decision
:confNeither do I. At his best, Sumbu was good enough to completely dominate and outclass Mike McCallum. Late bloomer? Inconsistent? Maybe both, but when Sumbu was on, there are very few Middleweights in history that have an easy time with him. ...Dare I say, there are no Middleweights that have an easy time with him.
This is one Monzon can't possibly lose. While it's true that Kalambay probably has the cuteness to last, he doesn't have the required speed needed to exploit Monzon's relative slowness, nor the power to keep him honest. Kalambay is NO threat to King Carlos.
The best Sumbu befuddles Monzon and takes a scrappy decision. When I see them both I just look to Sumbu having the greater arsenal.
I could see Kalambay proving a lot of problems to Monzon, but I see Carlos roughing him up on the inside and stopping him late, whilst behind on the cards.
The better jab belongs to Monzon in this one IMO, that would be crucial.... Some posters might disagree though, after all Kalambay had a great jab also, I just think Monzon had the best jab in the history of the sport (maybe not the best, but up there with anyone)
