The majority of experts put Monzon on Atg status, and Galindez on just very good status(borderline great) but what if Carlos would have stepped up? Would Carlos still play his countreymans superior(on atg status) or would Galindez muscle him inside and win it? With the weigh advantage this comes around to a pick em match up Imo:think How do you guys see this playing out?

Maybe I'm being too generous to King Carlos, but I have Victor by unquestionable UD. Monzon won't have nearly as easy time tying up opponents at 175, esp. a ferocious one like Galindez.

175 wasn't Monzon's territory, thats why it never happened, like Hagler never going above 160. A very select few fighters realize what their ideal division is, stay there and dominate it. Monzon was superior to Galindez as a fighter, but Galindez was the superior lightheavy, because it was his ideal division. I don't think Monzon had any interest at all in fighting above the middleweight class, and he and Galindez were friends anyway.

I know carlos is unproven, but an all time great middleweight, will always beat a good light heavyweight champion, imo. This is no different to Hopkins rising in weight to face Tarver. Plenty of questions were asked, but he answered them emphatically. Carlos wins a good fight.

You're selling Galindez seriously short with that comparison. He was no generically "good" champion and leagues better than the likes of tarver, Calzaghe, Hopkins etc at 175.

as far as this fight goes, i'm a big supporter of Monzon as a great middleweight fighter, but not someone who can see him moving up that well.

galindez would work him over quite comfortably.

I agree withh all this...and you're right...Galindez was head and shoulders over the lightheavies on recent years. He was quite resourceful with that "back against the ropes" counterpunching style..and in emergencies he could revert to being a caveman.
