Carlos Ortiz has an incredible resume

I know him well, I have been with him and his wife many times. I am glad he is getting his just do.

 

He'll get more than that here hh. One of the greatest lightweights ever

Fair enough, was there any talk of Napoles-Ortiz/Loche, Napoles was fighting at or near the 135lb limit until 1968 at the age of 28. Could be a bit of a black mark that it never happened. Napoles would stop Hernandez in 1964, 7months before Hernandez won a title against Perkins, 7 months after that Napoles also beat Perkins more clearly. It took Napoles an awful long time to get his title shot, and he had to jump upto WW to do it.

 

The only talk of Locche-Napoles that I've read about was when Locche was calling out Napoles for a shot at Napoles's welterweight title around 1970.

 

Pity that didn't happen

 

I can very vaguely remember reading an article some time ago that mentioned Locche wanting Napoles and vice versa for a number of years with various snags arising at different points. I'm sure whether or not Napoles was reluctant to go to Argentina or Locche was reluctant to go to the US or Mexico. Locche himself had apparently struggled to get a title shot at lightweight and light welter, with Lopopolo, Ortiz and Laguna all fighting him in non-title bouts while they held world titles. Having finally got what he wanted, he might well have been unwilling to risk it against such a high risk low reward type who had a good style to beat him.
