Any thoughts on this match up? Does Palomino get past the jab, outmuscles him on the inside and uses his body shots to slow Quartey? Or does Quartey's jab and workrate get the better of Palmono?
That is a great matchup. 50/50 fight. I liked Quartey a lot. Especially on his way up like in the Espana fight. But, Palomino was pretty durable, and, he might squeak out a split decision after Ike slows down a bit. I think it would be a close, competitive fight either way. I really respect both fighters.
I think most are going to pick Carlos but I have Ike winning this with his jab and sheer physical strength. Carlos was a big, strong welterweight as well but Ike's thunderous jab is the difference maker. The only thing that gives me pause is Ike had a tendency to fade late in fights which could be a factor against the iron chinned Palmono.
I think Ike builds up an early lead, & then perhaps withstands a late rally by Palomino to get the decision.
In a 12 rounder I'd make Quartey the favourite over 15 rounds I would be less confident in my pick. Palomino is one of the few Welterweights that has the chin the withstand Quartey's artillery and get to him late on. Honestly this fight could look alot like Ike Quartey vs Jose Luis Lopez. With Quartey building up a big early lead then Quartey having to survive in the later rounds in a life and death struggle. Overall I'll go with Quartey to win a decision after surviving a few scares late on. But really it depends on the amount of rounds 12 or 15 could determine a different winner. Quartey did fade in a few fights late on so the 15 round limit would probably favour Palomino more.

I am with you, over 15 I believe Palominos stamina, durability , and all round toughness would prevail, over the last 50 years I have seen many a fighter spar, the greats, not so great, and your average joe, only a handful have left me in Shangri-La, Palomino was one such, to be up close and see and hear him at work is a sight to behold, like I have said before, he doesn't impress at first, looks a little uninterested, but as he warms up, you get to see a smooth, calculated, box/fighter, the punches look slow and not of force, but he is like the chinese dripping water punishment, slowly his shots, his well placed shots start to take effect, not unlike the bite of the Black Mamba it will at some stage debilitate his opponent, I rate him, always have, ever since watching him prepare for Green, not the biggest puncher, or boxer, but the consummate pro, that others should look to learn from. stay safe DP, chat soon.
